Classes Alexis' classes are full of heart and soul and creativity. She uses an Ayurvedic (scroll to bottom for more information) approach to designing her sequences and choosing the asana and pranayam, while never losing sight of the bhakti, the devotion to each part of the process that makes it mean something, that gives it a higher purpose than just moving our bodies through time and space. Her classes call on the traditions of India and the innovations of the West weaving our practice into a metaphyiscal work of art. Classes often include astrological focus of the day, mythology, music, meditation and breath practices. She will lead you on a deep inner journey, but keep it light-hearted and playful, so it is easy to dive in. Her wish is for you to find freedom and love for yourself in your practice.

Private Yoga Sessions Enjoy private yoga sessions with Alexis in the comfort of your own home, on the beach or wherever feels good to you! In India, yoga was traditionally passed from teacher to student one-on-one, in an ashram-setting. This was considered the way for a sincere student to learn the true teachings and for a teacher to regard each student as they came and tailor the lessons to their manner of learning. Alexis was fortunate to learn yoga first in this manner, as today, this is rarely how people learn yoga, even in India. Classes are large and beginning students often don't receive the attention they need to correctly align themselves in the postures or to even learn the fundamental techniques. Much of the whole practice of yoga is left out. Don't misread me, classes are a beautiful way to practice and a necessary component of a regular yoga practice is community, but if you are able to make the space in your life for even a few private sessions, your entire world will open up in a way you had never thought possible! If you already have a practice, your understanding of it and relationship with it will change tremendously from even one session. Or, perhaps you don't have time to go to a yoga class, or you don't like the atmosphere of the classes. Maybe you have an injury or are a beginner, nervous about joining a class until you have some basics down. Or maybe you have been going to classes for years and just want to deepen your practice. Whatever the circumstances, I am honored and delighted to help you find find your way back to yourself!
First time clients will have a consultation where we determine your ayurvedic dosha (see 'Ayurveda' below) and discuss your goals for your yoga practice. This is where we can discuss injuries or apprehensions and tailor the practice for your dosha type, needs and desires and determine if you are looking for one or a few classes, or a more long term arrangement.

Ayurveda Ayurveda means "Life Knowledge" and was first recorded in the Atharva-veda, a text that was written 5-6,000 years ago. It is a comprehensive system of determining and balancing one's health. Each one of us has a Prakriti, or dosha type that makes up our constitution, and most of us have an imbalance of one or more of doshas as well. The Tridoshas are Vata, Pitta and Kapha. With a consultation one's dosha type and imbalance is determined and they are in turn recommended certain diet, herbs and lifestyle practices. Ayurveda is the sister science to yoga and for best results, should be practiced in conjunction with asana, pranyama, and meditation.
