The Sun and Moon will be exactly across from each other in sidereal Scorpio at 6:15 pm Hawaii Time on May 15th (9:15 pm PDT, and on May 16th on the East Coast and in other parts of the world). As the Moon is passing right by the South node, Ketu, we will also be experiencing a Total Lunar Eclipse for this Full moon. The Moon is traversing the nakshatra of Vishaka, which bridges Libra and Scorpio and while the exact degrees of the Full Moon, and most of the eclipse, the moon will still be in Libra, it crosses over into Scorpio an hour prior to the apex. This particular part of Scorpio, the first 3 degrees, is precisely where the Moon, our Mind and Emotions are debilitated. This means that our capacity to regulate our emotions is at its absolute lowest capacity for this Lunar Eclipse. Vishaka is the “forked path” and shows us where we need to veer off from the agreeability of Libra and walk alone. The results of this nakshatra show up over time and after much effort. Ruled by Indra-Agni, the Vedic god of sacrificial fire, it indicates tapasya of sorts, a consistent use of energy that is not burned just because, but in sacrifice of something greater than our own personal agenda. Their is a triumphant quality to this star, but triumph only comes after facing hardship. The South node, Ketu is where we have a lot of experience and wisdom, but not much interest or attention. It shows up in erratic, cutting, harsh and fiery ways. On the Moon it is likely to have us disengaged with our feelings, until suddenly something pierces deep and those feelings can implode. Ketu has just traversed backwards from Scorpio into late degrees Libra and as such is reminding us that even on the solo path, we need others. If we can’t compromise or work with others along the way, we will not get far. Eclipses come in pairs and the solar eclipse two weeks ago and this lunar eclipse are the first two in this new axis, of Aries and Libra, setting off a cycle of obsession with our self and our own agenda/trajectory, while we pull away from others and compromise.
The ruler of Libra, Venus is exalted in Pisces, joined Jupiter, the ruler. This alignment will help us offer up our concerns and issues to something higher than ourselves and find happiness despite the disappointments of others. Mars, the ruler of Scorpio is still barely in Aquarius, giving our sense of drama a societal twist, that can take some of the heat away from intimate arguments. Mercury Retrograde in Taurus is right across from our Moon as she is being eclipsed, reminding us to ask questions, review what we think we know and above all, listen with open ears and an open heart, so we are not just projecting our next thought onto what other people are speaking. This is a good time to take care of yourself and your energetic field. Cleanse yourself, clear your environment, meditate and try to avoid people or events where you might feel triggered or unsafe. There is always a lot of illusion and delusion when eclipses occur, especially on the mind, and Ketu can give us a particularly disgruntled view, so take every experience with a grain of salt and keep turning back to your path of peace.
