![]() The Sun changes signs from his exalted position in fiery Aries, to the feminine, earthy sign of Taurus this evening Thursday, May 14th, at 6:35pm Hawaii Time. Of course, it is actually we who are moving, not the Sun, but we have a tendency to be Earth-centric in our view of things:) The Sun is the Graha (literally, "to grab" but in Vedic Astrology refers to the Sun, Moon, 5 planets, and the 2 nodes of the Moon) of our Power, Inspiration, Confidence, Responsibility, and our general ability to lead our own little one man or woman army of our Self. He is our Soul's essence; pure Consciousness. When he was in Aries, he was strong, aligned with right action and disciplined. He could move without haltering, be direct and not waste energy. In the sensual realm of Venus-ruled Taurus, he is likely to get caught laying around in a field chewing some cud and forget about what he really wanted to do anyway, let alone have the discipline to do it. Like the ram, Taurus' bull is a quadruped and they are strong and stable creatures who are forward-moving and not very adaptable. This could work in our benefit here, as Taurus is also a fixed sign and likes to stay the course once its on it, so if while the Sun was in Aries we were able to get ourselves moving on any area of our life (likely related to the house in your chart it was transiting) he might just continue forward while in the practical yet artistic sign of Taurus for the next month. And perhaps the results of our efforts will be more beautiful and delicious because of it:) The Sun is joining Mars and Mercury in Taurus, two planets that have been hanging out in close proximity for a couple months now and plan to continue that pattern for a couple more. Mars brings an aggressive and harsh energy to Mercury's communication and intellect. While Taurus basically makes all of the above planets more mellow and gentler, this Mars/Mercury conjunction has been the scenario for some time now and in much more aggressive alignments; We have all likely done at least a bit of damage with our communications recently. Meaning that even though we might have felt right and righteous in a moment of conflict, we chose to cut the communication connection rather than foster and nurture it. Just before the Sun moves into Taurus, Mars moves into exact opposition to the planet Saturn, who is sitting retrograde in Mars' sign of Scorpio. This means that Mars and Saturn, naturally inimical Grahas are facing off, giving each other their dristhi, an energetic glance (or glare). Saturn brings to Mars a fearful and constricting energy which could actually be a benefit to Mars' influence on Mercury right now, since Saturn slows Mars down and will help us think before we speak or act. He will also curb some of the confidence of Mars, so perhaps we won't be so sure we are right. Saturn is a humbling planet, the keeper of our time and the one who reminds us that it is going to run out. He brings us to face the consequences of our hasty actions and speech. Saturn will also be giving his dristhi to the Sun and Mercury here, but it is more directly focused at Mars, since the degrees of opposition are moving towards exact. Likewise, Mars will also bring some benefit through his dristhi to Saturn. Saturn has been struggling with our irrational fears in the sign of Scorpio in whatever area of our life that falls in, and since its been retrograde we have been internalizing that process. Scorpio is where we are trying to strengthen our inner self, our emotions and feelings, and with its ruler Mars giving his glance, he is offering Saturn some strength and support here. Mars has the exact confidence and unfaltering ability to walk through the fire that Saturn needs to face our fears and humility. Since Mars moved into Taurus on May 3rd we have been feeling this energy-exchange between Saturn and Mars, but this evening until Saturday morning, the two planets will be in exact degrees opposite one another and the intensity of the 2-way dristhi will be elevated. The Moon is in the sign of Pisces, in the nakshatra of Revati most of Thursday and into Friday morning, Hawaii time, where it is joined Ketu, the south node of the Moon. Revati is where the soul finds its way home. It is ruled by the shepherd, Pushan and it is a soft nakshatra that guides beings to their resting place. In the mystical, otherworldly sign of Pisces joined the often contentious, but also tuned-in and wise Ketu, this is an alignment for going within and finding some peace. After months of struggling and arguing and impatience we are perhaps all due for a little quiet time. A time out. This is a good time to listen rather than speak and reflect on what comes up for you in interactions with others without reacting. We have all said enough, and we would be wise to take advantage of the Moon's time in Pisces to step out of the fire and observe. No matter what social activities you find yourself participating in, you can make the choice to maintain integrity of speech and choose less over more. The moon will be moving into Aries late Friday morning (afternoon for those on Pacific time) and will once again activate our go-get'em attitude, so if we can be more in tune with our self and our truest intentions by then, and use the humility, willingness to do the hard work, and slower pace that Saturn offers us by his dristhi on Mars, the Sun and Mercury moving forward into this month, we will be more successful in our communication now, and in our endeavors in the long run.
