Saturn has been in his own sign of Capricorn for a long while, since January of 2020 and for this 3 year stint, we have all been feeling the depths of our mortality…and our fear. From all angles of beliefs and values, fear has been what has determined what we are committed towards, what we are willing to work hard for and how we spend our time. While our beliefs (Jupiter) moved on to wider and more expansive spaces, Saturn has kept us locked in our limitations. Now, he is shifting into his other sign of Aquarius, where the future is on the horizon and we are committed to working hard to bring it into being. While there is still an element of fear here, it is a fear of things staying the same, not changing, not moving and it propels us to get up and start flying with our imagination. Instead of digging our heels deeper into the mud around us, we are likely to pick up our feet and follow our radical ideas into becoming reality. What if everything we have grown to fear is just a figment of our collective imagination? What if it is actually up to us to be the change we want to see in the world? It must always begin with ourselves.
Aquarius is an air sign and thus represents our intellect and what we can imagine through this mind-space. As the natural sign of community, the future and society as a whole, it is here that we dream up the world we want to live in and through Saturn’s hard work ethic and humility we are able to gather together to begin designing it. Working with others and equality are big themes in Aquarius, as it is opposite Leo, the sign of the King and rulership that is passed down through lineage. Here, the little people matter and we embrace the notion that if even one person is left behind, it is too many. Saturn is moving into Aquarius riding on the nakshatra Dhanistha, through which he has been in since February 17th, of 2022. He actually stepped foot in Aquarius during this time from April 29th-July 17, 2022 and retrograded his way back into Capricorn. Dhanistha is ruled by the Vasus, the gods of light; Sun, Moon, Stars, Earth, Fire, Water, Air, & Sky/Space and indicates our original materials of which all life springs forth. The symbol for this star is a drum, showing the steady rhythm necessary to bring things into manifestation. When we are erratic, or scattered, we cannot bring forth great things, therefore we must use Saturn’s determined qualities to keep our eyes and hands on what we know is necessary. While in Capricorn, that is founded in survival, in Aquarius it is founded in what is necessary for our collective human growth. The need is to thrive and not just on our own. The more consistent and steady our beat, the more we will create, yet the need to shift even ever so slightly to accommodate new information, ideas and other people’s needs, desires and feelings is inherent. If we keep beating our drum with no awareness for our own actual and lived experience, and that of others, then we are creating from our subconscious fears rather than making the music our souls know is possible. Saturn will shift into Satabishak on March 14th, 2023 (and back into Dhanistha on Oct 14th during Retrograde until he directs back into Satabishak on Nov 22nd). Satabishak is the star of a “Hundred Healers”. It is said that an illness contracted during this star will take a hundred healers to heal and a cure found will last forever. While the healing arts and medicine are definitely indicated here, it is actually social healing that is the hidden meaning. This star is ruled by Varuna, often called the god of the ocean, yet he is actually the god of the “dark Sun’, the Sun as it goes beneath the ocean at night. Varuna is the hundreds of stars as eyes in the sky, seeing all that goes on in the cloak of darkness. Here we witness the corruption and illness that pervades our communities and we feel compelled to do something about it. Saturn’s practical and removed qualities help us to not become to emotionally attached while still being willing to kneel close to the ground to do the dirty work that must be done if our collective problems are to be solved. Saturn will move into the final nakshatra of Aquarius, Purva Bhadrapada on April 6, 2024 (he will Retrograde back into Satabishak on Oct 3rd, 2024 until December 27th, 2024 when he returns to Purva Bhadrapada). This is the star of early awakening and is represented by Aja Ekapada, the one footed goat. Here we experience the lightning bolt of awareness that we are beyond these physical forms and that our entire material experience is actually predicated on our imagination and ego. In his highest emanation Saturn is the great meditator, the one who brings us beyond space and time to true moksha, or freedom. Here we have an opportunity to move beyond the time/space reality that we have been operating in to imagine future social systems that do not require “sticking a pin” in so many aspects of life to maintain a status quo. Since it is the early stages, which completes in Pisces and then moves into the last two stages of coming home to our true selves, it is not likely we will achieve exactly what we envision but knowing something is not real is the first step towards embodying what is. This star also is indicated by a man with two faces, and can show a split between the past and the future and where we must bridge the two. It can also indicate the inherent hypocrisy that arises as we begin to navigate leaving where we’ve been with embodying where we want to go.
