This New Moon is Tuesday, September 17th at 4:01 am PST at 0 degrees Virgo in the star of Uttara Phalguni. Often referred to as "the Wedding Star” due to the marriage of Shiva and Parvati taking place here, it is a placement where contracts are made and honored. Barely moved from Leo both the Sun and Moon are moving from the place of rulership and royalty to the place where organization, details and purity rule the roost. Here everything is scrutinized and categorized and put in its place. This is where we want neatness and order and if we could we would scrub everything, including ourselves, back to a pristine state. Virgo is the sign of the virgin, the pre-pubescent girl, and we can see in the collective both an obsession with this state of girlhood and a strong desire to protect it. Mercury is here already, in his sign of exaltation and also rulership and this is where we will find discernment. While neither the Sun or the Moon particularly love being in Virgo, due to the hyper-sensitivity to anything being “off” or “wrong”, having the ruler there can bring a lot of wisdom. We have brought a bit more discernment to our processing of information as of the past couple weeks that Mercury has been here, and that will continue in this New Moon cycle. Jupiter is also direct now, and Saturn moving that direction in 11 days, both still in their own signs. This helps us feel “forward-moving” with our inspiration and teachings (or school) and Saturn will help us feel strong in our commitments and boundaries. Mars, on the other hand, is Retrograde in his own sign of Aries and the anger is starting to burst out. The stifling quality of delayed action and unrealized physical potential is bottling us up and out is popping some angry energy. It is still giving a one-way dristhi (gaze) to Venus, so we can see that is particularly heating up our relationships with others and our sense of happiness. This is particularly problematic as Venus is in Cancer and feeling a bit easy to break down. Venus in Cancer gives us the feeling that we are doing so much for others and they are not doing nearly as much for us. We feel sacrificial, even though it is us that is choosing to give. We also feel particularly emotional and can be empathic, so give yourself a rest. This is a time when holding your tongue might be best and simply asking for what you need is the best path towards peace. Blessed New Moon!
