Our New Moon is happening at 7:42 pm PST Tuesday, August 18th, at 2 degrees of Leo in the star of Magha, or “Mighty”. This star is the aspect of the King that tunes into the ancestors. Ruled by the divine Pitris, the ancestors of mankind, it's symbol is a palanquin, the seat on which a King might be carried. Often in Leo, especially in the next nakshatra, Purva Phalguni, we can get caught up in being royal and the spoils associated therein, but in Magha we must trace back to our lineage and be open to listening to the past. Each of us can learn from our own personal family and history, our society's lineage and our collective past in order to move forward with wise action. As the Sun and Moon have both just crossed the Gandanta point here, the sudden, often jarring jump from water signs to fire signs, we can feel the immediate heat both literally and figuratively begin to move through us. Heat waves and fires, and our own personal furnace lit and ready for action. With our Moon, our psyche, our mind and emotions, being eclipsed by the Sun, our light, we are being given an opportunity to really tune into that light. The Sun is where we shine the light both from within, and on the world around us. Everything revolves around that light, and if the light is bright, as it is in its own sign of Leo, than we are going to see the truth. Now is a time to get radically honest with ourselves about what we see. About what is. Mercury joined the Sun and Moon at 4 degrees Leo will impart more discernment and a powerful intellect to inform our light, but it is not in its most powerful dignity, or intelligence so we must continue to look at what the light is showing us. Mercury joined in tight degrees can cause us to feel like we are not being heard. Mercury in Leo is often loud, outspoken and interrupting, but while combust (in close degrees to the Sun) expect to feel like no one is hearing you. Everyone else is shouting their own story, so don't take it personally, just write it down, record it or speak it out too. The point of speaking our truth, is not solely so that it can be heard, it is also so that you can get it out of your brain and off your chest. The most important quality of right now is actually to get out of the brain and into the body. We have all been speaking and reading enough this last year and half and as we move our way from the nodal axis Gemini/Sagittarius into Taurus/Scorpio, our brains will get a much-needed rest and we can actually practice all that we have preached! The Sun and Moon aren't the only ones who just jumped from water to fire, the fiery planet Mars just did the same. In fact, Mars is sitting in another Gandanta point, at 0 degrees, 46 seconds Aries, in the star of Ashwini, since he moves at a much slower rate. After a long bout in the watery and sometimes spiritual, sometimes fantasty-ridden sign of Pisces, we might have been slow to act, but deep in dreams. Now, abruptly, we might feel compelled to act. No more avoiding; we have all just been infused with some massive courage to DO. Mars will be doing this dance for a long bout this year and in the new one to come as he begins his retrograde cycle September 9th and will be moving back over the Gandanta to Pisces on October 3rd. This point, which is perhaps most shocking at this particular water/fire juncture, is offering us an opportunity to explore the difference between what we dream and what we do. Revati, the last nakshatra of all 27, is where we find our peace, and “walk each other home.” Ashwini, the first nakshatra of all 27, is where we set off like twin horses, running (hopefully in sync) towards our goal. On November 13th, Mars will move forward again and go back into Aries, this time having had deep dive into the connection to source that informs our actions. Retrograde planets manifest less in the physical realm, but become of heightened importance to the individual, and in this case, the whole society. While we hone this area of our being, we are “delayed” in our external capacity to demonstrate it. With Mars, it is our courage, discipline, anger and action. Perhaps we are angry because we are not disciplined in our physical and spiritual practices that can help us evolve and find peace? Retrograde Jupiter is in Sagittarius, giving a very distant dristhi (energetic gaze) towards both Mars in Aries and the Sun/Moon/Mercury in Leo. This is very far in degrees, so it will take on more power as especially the Sun and Mercury move closer to it in degrees. This will bring more wisdom and solid teachings to our communication, information and most importantly, our sense of power, leadership and connection to consciousness. Mars will not get too close in degrees to this Jupiter gaze, before moving retrograde and the Moon will move closer the next day from the New Moon, but will move out just as quick. On September 12th, Jupiter will begin direct motion and we will find ourselves being able to activate our beliefs in the world again. What's really powerful about this sudden heatwave?? The fact that the Sun, Mars and Jupiter, all three masculine planets will be in their own sign, bringing a lot of intelligence. All of them are also in the masculine, Fire signs they rule, not the feminine watery ones....time to stand up strong for ourselves, not in arguments but in action. Action that is righteously aligned with you and your higher consciousness. Saturn is also in his own sign, offering meditative intentions and integral fear. With both Venus and the Moon in friendly dignity too, we have a lot of intelligence available right now. Both of those feminine planets, and Mercury are operating from masculine signs, giving us even more of a sense of going out into the world with our big, bad selves and doing what we need to do;-) Since this is a New Moon, where the mind is diffuse, and generally holding higher capacity for meditation, this is an extremely meaningful gateway of potential!
