Mars is transiting sidereal Taurus for 6 months total, from August 10th, 2022 to March 12th, 2023. There’s a short stint from October 15th-November 13th where he will be in Gemini, but due to apparent Retrograde motion, he will traverse back into Taurus quickly. Mars will be Retrograde from October 30th-Jan 12th, 2023. Mars is our planet of Action, Discipline, Courage and Anger. He is the part of us that acts first, thinks later, and the part of us that gets frustrated when things do not go according to plan. He helps us see things in black and white, right or wrong and when faced with a monumental task or a great fear, he is the part of us that shows up or folds on our courage. When he is lit up in high dignity (intelligence), then he gets us out of bed every morning to practice yoga, run or meditate. When he is floundering in less comfortable setting, we may not show up for our daily routines as consistently and we may even decided it is someone else’s fault that we fell short of our goals. This can definitely be the case when he is in Venus’ sign of Taurus, as we often fold on our personal discipline when we want to connect with others. Here he is testing our discipline and also reminding us to stop and smell the roses, or eat the grass;-) We may feel a little lazy at times, but if we remember to do everything we do in the spirit of moving meditation, then we might be able to transform the energy into sensuous productivity. Really finding presence in all our day’s activities, no matter how mundane, is a gift of Taurus, and as long as we don’t wander too far off the path, or fall asleep for too long of a nap, we may find that this kind of self-care, slowing down, showing up for oneself is also quite necessary. Be mindful that we can get agitated all of a sudden at times, when we feel poked and prodded, or when we hold others’ accountable for our own lack of discipline. Since Taurus is an earth sign, particularly one related to growing things, we can expect some extra heat, even as we move into winter and the need to be extra nurturing to any plants or food that we are tending as this alignment can affect them! When Mars is Retrograde we are extra slow with our actions; it can feel like we are taking more steps backwards than forwards, particularly in the areas of life that are ruled by his houses in your chart. We are internalizing our anger, our courage and our discipline, instead of outputting it. In this case, it can help us navigate the more negative qualities of Mars in Taurus by slowing us down so much that we may even see the issues we are creating with our lack of discipline. We can review our actions and see where we could have more courage and where we take the easy and comfortable way out. This can be one of the harder retrograde planets because Mars IS output. He is action. Allow yourself to examine what triggers your anger and try sitting with it instead of reacting. Taurus is where we feel like we are calm, cool and collected until someone keeps us from food or pushes us when we are not ready and then we can see red. Since Mars rules the 7th and 12th house from Taurus, he indicates energy that is both very far away from and different from Taurus’ own energy and also that which is hidden and below the surface. This shows how the ire can come out suddenly and seemingly from nowhere, and how others are often the ones who trigger it. Now is a great time for all of us to evaluate what makes us angry and why and find tools and practices to override that experience in our brain because our anger only hurts us in the end. It is helpful to know what houses Mars rules for you and what house Taurus is in your chart, so that you can see how it is playing out in your life. I break it down for each of the 12 Vedic Rising Signs, showing where it is in your chart and what it dictates.
