Full Moon in Purva Bhadrapada: Are you Awake?
The Moon will be full late this Friday night here in Hawaii (11:59 pm on 9/9) and early Saturday morning Pacific Time (2:59 am on 9/10) in the star of Purva Bhadrapada in sidereal Aquarius. This is the star of insight and the lightning bolt of awareness that comes when we first become conscious of the “I” beyond our body and mind. This awareness brings us face to face with everything we every imagined is possible, and then like the dawn, swiftly takes it away again to leave us awake and alone on the path back to this “I”. Generally, we start off pretty enthusiastic and ready to face anything but as time wears on and we find ourselves back mired in the material world, we can grow weary and try to find an easier way, or give up. It can get scary and maybe even perilous, and often all we have is a souvenir, reminding us of where we’ve been and what we’ve seen that brought us here to begin with. Purva means “early”, Bhadra “blessed, and Pada means “step” or “foot”. It is ruled by Aja Ekapada, the one-footed goat (or dragon) and shows the importance of that one step that can make or break us, and also that despite not having all the material resources (like 4 feet) one can make the journey if determined and awake to where they are heading. In truth, the one-footed goat is not going anywhere at all, because there is no other place to go to. One of the symbols for Purva Bhadrapada is a man with two faces. One can see the future and one can see the past. This gives this star rich psychic abilities, and enormous insight into the collective timeline and where things have been corrupted. it can also show how the way we show up in public is different than how we show up in private. Since Purva Bhadrapada bridges Aquarius, the natural 11th house, the house of society and Pisces, the natural 12th house, the house where we “hide out”, we can see this play out. For public figures this is something that is often scrutinized by the population but in truth we all have a capacity to dream big and perhaps present it to our small circle, our “world”, and then retreat to our secret caves, where its all an illusion. Collectively, we get caught up in “presenting well” and conversely calling out hypocrisy in others as we see it. The reality is in modern society it is almost impossible to not be a hypocrite. Living one’s values requires enormous effort and willingness to step out of the status quo, and even within that, hypocrisy is met again and again. If we are to evolve past this lighting flash of insight into the depths of spiritual wisdom and enlightenment we must remove ourselves from this feedback loop. One thing to meditate on is what kind of world we choose to live in and co-create. Society is something that is away from us, we are a part of it, but not in an intimate way. It is something we can judge and remove ourselves from the cause and effects of what happens there. Community is intimate, we know the other people and can reflect back to each other how our actions affect one another. We work together and are responsible and affected by the cause and effect of what takes place. The reflections of others can be a way to check ourselves and if we are noting the ways in which we are not fully embodying what we want to or what we present to others, than we are on the path. It is those that choose not to see that, who will stay stuck in hypocrisy. If one never encounters it at all then they are likely not paying attention or have become so adept at selling that they are able to convince even themselves of why they are always right and therefore not wrong. This can keep you stuck in the karmic loop for a much longer stint, when the purpose of this star is to break free. The other symbol for this star is a the front of a funeral bed (Uttara Bhadrapada the “later blessed step” is the back end) and this shows how ultimate freedom comes when we release all our attachments to this world and its ways, even those to our physical form. Can we be both fully vested and unattached to the results?? Both the rulers of this Full Moon are retrograde; Saturn rules Aquarius, the part of Purva Bhadrapada the Moon is actually in and Jupiter rules the star itself. Everything is up for review, particularly what we have been believing and what we have been afraid of. This indicates heavy interest in the past and what has already transpired. In the greater world, this might look like secrets being exposed, particularly by governments and people in power, as the Sun is across the way in Leo, the sign of power, authority and governments. Who is king? As I wrote about last week, without proper initiation and lineage one cannot fully embody leadership. On the other hand, if all one has has been inherited and there is no real personal embodiment of power, this will also result in weak leadership. Power is a service to others and when wielded solely for personal gain, will eventually fall. The Sun is now in the star Purva Phalguni, which indicates the part of Leo where those in power are really enjoying the good life and become enchanted particularly by what they see with their eyes. Venus, the ruler of Purva Phalguni is joined the Sun, really amping up the King’s pleasure, enjoyment and beauty and perhaps being short-sighted about what the little people may be experiencing and feeling. Mars is giving a one-way dristhi to this Sun/Venus in Leo from Taurus, Venus’ earthy sign of physical pleasure so laziness and frustration can be felt as well as heightened sexual energy and power struggles in relationships. Mars is transiting Taurus for 7 months and I will be sending out a FREE report on this transit specific for all 12 signs to my email subscribers this weekend. You can sign up at: http://www.alexiscoxyoga.com/forecasts and instantly receive 3 other free reports on Jupiter, Saturn and the Nodes’ transits! Finally, Mercury is officially retrograde as of September 9th, and is directly across from Jupiter, also retrograde. This mutual dristhi from both planets in their own signs, with quite a lot of intelligence running can give us incredible insight and mental acuity, but is not likely to offer as much physical output in the material world due to the delays and internalizing process that retrograde offers. We live in a society that honors physical manifestation over process and so it can feel frustrating or even painful to have so many planets retrograde. There are 6 planets in apparent retrograde motion right now if you include the outer planets of Pluto, Neptune and Uranus so try to find patience with yourself and others. Things are not likely to go according to your plans and the more you can embrace this, the less frustrated you will feel. You will likely have to traverse old ground, in many different areas of life. Trust that this is part of the process and that everything is happening in its own perfect timeline. Blessings on your Full Moon! To Find out how these alignments affect your full natal chart:
