On Friday, January 6th at 1:08 pm HT (3:08 pm PDT) the Moon will be across from the Sun in the star of Punarvasu in sidereal Gemini. This is the star of repeating patterns, like fractals, and indicates “ a Return of the Light”. Here the universal mother, Aditi, is born. Our lives, our experiences and the whole of reality is cyclical, circular, but each time we return again, we come with different understanding. Sometimes, it can feel as though we are right back where we started, but who we are is different and therefore everything has changed. The symbol of an arrow returned to its quiver is poignant, as it has been shot. It has been used. It is not new. Just like we are not new; we have been here for awhile, perhaps many whiles, again and again repeating patterns and mistakes and triumphs. Here we return to our state of peace after an epic storm and we allow the gentle wetness of the earth to move us through what we feel. This star bridges Gemini and Cancer and shows how our biggest battles are fought in the mind and the afterglow is in our heart.
Right across from the Sun and Mercury Retrograde (the ruler of Gemini) we are receiving reflections of how our beliefs have caused us pain. We too often shoot our arrows before we know the full story or have seen the big picture. We have deeply engrained beliefs that cause us to think we “know” what is happening or what someone else’s intentions are, but these are generally based in experiences we have had, or what we have been taught is true. This full moon can remind us that we need to listen and learn before we plant our next seeds, because our power comes not from already knowing but from understanding that we are always still learning. We might feel unheard, or as though we cannot speak our truth, due to both Mercury’s retrograde and his close combustion to the Sun, but in fact this is a very powerful Mercury. Close to the Earth, he is close to us, and therefore we are students of the highest degree, if we are able to discontinue our patterns of needing to fill space with words. We don’t need to know what to say. We don’t have to say anything, in fact. We can listen and allow the truth to unveil itself. With Saturn in the final degrees of Capricorn we are coming to head with the great lessons of the last three years, and those are to be humble, hardworking and aware of, but not ruled by, Time. To commit ourselves to what is worthy of our time and not to spend our days and hours and minutes obsessing over what is inevitable, that our time here will one day come to an end. Punarvasu, reminds us that endings are actually just beginnings. Venus moving closer to Saturn is offering us this same humble and committed attitude in our relationships and a sense of happiness that is grounded and practical. There are actual things we can do to be happy. We can enjoy the daily grind of survival if we choose to see the blessing in living another day. We can certainly be happier if we choose to listen to those we are in relation too, instead of imposing our own opinions and projections upon them. Reality is actually more beautiful than fantasy if we aren’t attached to always feeling good. With Mars still Retrograde for another week in the 12th house from this Moon, there might still be some unresolved anger beneath the surface. Notice it and allow it to fuel more physical exercise, discipline in what you eat and to enjoy the sensuality of each moment, rather than trying to extract it from interactions with others. We are not here to use one another, we are here to enjoy the company and camaraderie of others while being happy with ourselves. It is our job to make ourselves happy and believe it or not, the most difficult energies can be the ones to propel us towards that grace. Take time to enjoy the light, sing and connect with the elements. Listen to music and do practices that elevate your heart. Bathe in the light of the Moon and all that was born from darkness. You are the light that is returning to Earth, and it is you that witnesses that all around you and creates your next reality. Blessings on your Full Moon!
