On Monday, June 20th we have the Full Moon in sidereal Sagittarius just after 1 am Hawaii Time (GMT-10), so Sunday night will be the brightest emanation. This Moon will be opposite the Sun and Venus in Gemini and serve as a counterpoint to the somewhat scattered, airy energy we've been feeling. In Gemini we are flexible, intellectual, information-oriented and verbose. It is an air sign, which imparts an intellectual energy and it is ruled by Mercury, the planet of our intellect. We can lose ourselves here in a sea of facts and knowledge, but fail to pull it together into any kind of wisdom. In Sagittarius, we are driven by a desire for wisdom, as we follow our beliefs and ideals rather than our mind. The danger of Sagittarius is becoming obsessive or dogmatic, breeding the dictates of religion over true spirituality, and missing the real wisdom after all. These two polar opposites can be used together to give us true discernment and faith that is based on knowing, if we use them wisely. Jupiter tightly joined the north node, Rahu in Leo is giving an energetic glance to this Moon in his own sign, and will increase the wisdom possible here, maybe even offering insight from a seemingly foreign or "out-of-this-realm" place, but it can also increase the desire to spread your beliefs to others as truth. Try to avoid standing on a pulpit and bringing others to your ideals. The specific star cluster of Sagittarius where this full moon will reside, is called Mula. Mula literally means root, and it is where we uproot ourselves from the path we have been following so that we can plant different seeds, generally more universally inspired seeds, that are in alignment with our spiritual growth. The Sun is still in Mrigashira, the "searching star" that aims to find its spiritual path, so we will truly be inspired to reach high here. Meanwhile, Venus in Gemini, still combust with the Sun is in exchange of signs with Mercury who is in Venus' own sign of Taurus. This creates a sharing of energies, a comraderie of two friendly planets and can give us the desire to talk and enjoy the company of others. Our speech is sweet and connective, and our feeling of happiness engaged by mental sharing and conversation. This is a great time to get together with friends and enjoy life. Venus' still close proximity to the Sun might mean we have a lingering feeling of giving more than we get in relationship, and/or a some what painful purification of our understanding of what it means to be happy, but in Gemini we are likely to laugh it off and let it go quickly with a rational thought or two. The biggest shift we have is Mars, still retrograde, has moved its way back into Libra, Venus' other sign for a month, giving us a small break from the intense conjunction with Saturn in Scorpio. This may bring about a sudden collapse in discipline and action and bring us more of a desire to connect with others through our actions. Look for the feeling that you are sacrificing your discipline for others, perhaps blaming them or yourself for "wasting your time" and keeping yourself from your daily practices. This might be enjoyable at first, or more of a hidden feeling, and then when Mars goes direct at the end of the month, it is likely to feel more frustrated. Look to find enjoyment or motivation towards activities, rather than "discipline". Discipline can imply something we don't really want to do that we are forcing ourselves to. It is also generally practiced on oneself. In Sanskrit we have a word called sangha, or Satsang, where we look to surround ourselves with like-minded people to share in our spiritual practices. This can be found in anything you do...if you surf, find friends who do also and go with them. If you like to hike, take your partner. Whatever you do, make sure it brings you a degree of pleasure, so you won't feel like you have to do it. You may find yourself more inclined towards intellectual and creative pursuits than physically active ones now, and that is great also, although you may find you really need some physical grounding. Whatever you feel, do it, and try to lose any thoughts irking you have that you should be doing something else. Mars will be marching back into Scorpio soon enough and finishing 2016 with plenty of Discipline and Rules, so let it go for now...it's summer...and life is allowed to be pleasant! The Summer Solstice is happening at 12:34pm Hawaii Time, so we will also be celebrating the official beginning of Summer on Monday, the longest day of the year. This is a day many yogis choose to honor by doing sun salutations. 108, the mystical number that correlates to our life here on earth by indicating the distance between the Sun and the Earth and the Moon and the Earth (108 Suns between the Sun and Earth, and 108 Moons between the Moon and Earth, actually more like 109 now) is often the chosen number of salutations to do and you can do it alone, or reveling in the friendly vibes, share the fun with others. If your feeling under-motivated, find a bunch of friends and you can each just do a few;-) You can also take a hike or a swim at sunrise Monday and honor the rising sun with reflection, prayer or meditation. In addition, the following day is the International Day of Yoga, where yogis all over the world will practice together, and many teachers will make their classes available online through a summit. http://yogadaysummit.com is a site where you can register for some of these classes and http://idayofyoga.org is a site where you can find sangha in celebrating this day. It is only the second year of this celebration and it is a big step in recognizing all that this tremendous way of life brings not only to those who practice, but to the world as we are indeed interconnected and each of our actions affect one another and the planet!
