Our Full Moon this month is happening Saturday, December 18th at 6:35 pm HT (8:35 pm PST) in sidereal Gemini in the star of Mrigasira, the “Searching Star.” Ruled by Soma, the Moon, as well as the immortal bliss that we all seek, Mrigasira is where we set out in search of something that we know is there but have yet to fully taste. From the earthy sign of our values, security and pleasure (Taurus) into the mental landscape of Gemini where we test new ideas and seek new information and skills, this star helps us imagine a new world. This nakshatra is literally “a deer’s face” and can be depicted as a deer sniffing the ground before it scampers to the next spot. The skittish quality of deer can be seen here, as well as a lack of clear direction, so we have to be careful to infuse our search with meaning and purpose. In Gemini, we are flexible, information-oriented and more able to be objective with that information. It is a place in each of our charts where we can have fun through balanced communication, idea sharing and research, and yet is also a place where a steady flow of information can become the focus, while a point or conclusion is never drawn from all the data. Across from our Sun in Sagittarius, we are being asked to reflect on the difference between knowledge and wisdom and our relationships with facts versus universal truths. In the realm of Sagittarius we see the opposite issue of Gemini; confirmation bias, dogma, and zealotry can all exist when we are constantly creating meaning or funneling what information we are willing to take in through our pre-determined views.
Mercury, the ruler of Gemini is joined the Sun here, in close enough degrees to be combust, and is affecting the way we are able to discern information. He is giving us a bent towards communicating with “higher wisdom” and philosophy, but also a tendency to “spiritually bypass” ourselves or others, and less capacity to have neutral discernment. Combust, we might not feel fully heard, especially by authority figures and might create a philosophical reason for that in our minds or laugh it off with a joke rife with deeper meaning. Mercury is also in the star Purva Ashada, giving us the desire to plant new seeds in the gaping holes left from both our recent eclipse in Scorpio (and the subsequent Mars/Ketu conjunction that is exploding anything that hasn't yet come up and out of the shadows), and from the Sun newly transited into the star of Mula, “the root”. The house that Sagittarius is for you, as well as the ones ruled by Mercury will indicate what area of life this is occurring in for you. Mula is ruled by Nirriti, the goddess of destruction and is where we rip up by the roots anything that is not serving our higher purpose or sense of truth. Here the bright rays of the sun shine on what is not working and we feel the power and leadership to do what needs to be done to fix it, beginning with destroying the pre-existing conditions. Venus is about to begin her Retrograde cycle from December 19th-January 29th, beginning in Capricorn and moving back through Sagittarius. She is beginning this cycle in Capricorn in the star of Uttarashada, the “later victory’, where we are able to reap some of the harvest from our efforts in the previous star Purva Ashada (see above). Capricorn is the practical, utilitarian sign where we are geared towards survival and not as focused on making things nice. The results here usually give way to longer efforts and incur the patience of the ruler Saturn, but as she is traveling perceptively backwards, it will be a chance to see where we put in the work but maybe weren’t careful with the foundation. On December 29th she will make her way back into Sagittarius, where we have to beware of turning our relationships into philosophical camaraderie, versus genuine relating. The ways in which we have bypassed ourselves in relationship and our partners will likely surface and we will see if we did actually plant seeds that we can believe in. Collectively, this will be a rewind and review of our relationships, including actual previous partners coming out of the woodwork as well as themes and issues we’ve had in our relational past. It will also be a chance to reflect on what gives you pleasure and makes you happy. Personally, it will show up as Venus is a house lord for you and the area of life that she rules for you, as well as where Capricorn and Sagittarius are in your chart. This means that the transit will be very different for an Aries Rising than a Libra Rising, as for Aries it is the 7th lord of partnerships and the 2nd lord of Value, and for Libra it is the ruling planet and indicative of deep reflection upon their own identity. For each Rising sign, Venus is a different ruling planet and therefore indicates a different area of life being reviewed. It is vital to understanding transits to know where and how they will show up in your life specifically. For that reason, I offer reports that give a detailed description of what each sign will be experiencing in the more powerful and affecting transits.
