Full Moon in Leo: Vanity or Humanity?

Sunday night our Moon will be across from the Sun, being fully luminous, with the exact opposite degrees falling at 10:48 am PDT on Monday, March 9th. This full moon is in sidereal Leo, in the sign of Kings and Queens. The specific start that it falls in is Purva Phalguni, where we are less-inclined towards the work of our predecessors and our lineage or higher calling and more inclined towards the reveling in the pleasure and power. This is the star where we see leaders fall. The source of it all is through the eyes, where we fall for illusions of grandeur and see beauty and try to use our power to own it. We each have this potential but if it is high in someone's chart than we likely see that this person falls prey to their own vanity and the allure of beautiful things time and time again. It is good to be king, but not if your subjects are suffering. If the whole kingdom is falling apart, you will eventually lose your followers. The ruling graha (body that “grabs” us) of Leo is of course, the Sun, where we are directed by our light. Our inner light, our consciousness is a reflection of our outer light, the sun. This higher part of us is in Aquarius, giving us a different message. The message there is, it must be good for all. If we aren't helping everyone, we are helping ourselves. Angry subjects will overthrow a bad king. Aquarius is where we use our intellect to create and implement forward-thinking endeavors whose goals are to help mankind. The new Moon we had two weeks ago in Shatabishak also highlighted health and healing, and this coronavirus scare has taken the front stage since then. As we face a potential world-wide epidemic, we are being asked to see if the leaders are serving the greater good, or taking advantage of their power. This is also something that is coming up with the primary elections in the US and within the Democratic party. Are the leaders serving the community and their needs, or keeping power and trading it amongst themselves?

Heavy questions for which many of us might have well-thought out ideas, but have been suffering from diminished capacity to get our words out. With Mercury Retrograde the last few weeks, we have not been able to share our thoughts as effectively with others and this leads to frustration within. We are tempted to give up when we don't feel heard. To just keep our brilliant understanding to ourselves and people who already “get it” and to let everyone else fall flat. This is a losing strategy too. It is another side of the leader who enjoys their power too much and forgets that their job is to lead people to prosperity, safety and freedom. This notion that well they deserve what they get from their own ignorance is equally dangerous. Later this same day, Mercury will station and begin to speed up and appear “foward-moving” again. To be clear, Mercury (and all the other planets) don't actually move backwards. They are moving so slow during retrograde cycles that it appears that way from our viewpoint here on earth. This is a good time to get your word out, whatever that looks like. Computers and technology will be less likely to stall our or malfunction and we will be more likely to say what we are trying to in all the ways that can happen. We have the opportunity to shine and come from a place of personal power now, but also to recognize what our power can and should do for everyone else. For this full moon we also have Jupiter giving his direct, one-way gaze from his home base in Sagittarius. This is poignant because it is an opportunity to remember our wisdom, our teachings and our teachers. It is an opportunity to call on our highest wisdom and dharma, truth in our leadership. It is also the last couple weeks we will have access to this higher wisdom for a while, so we need to use it while we have it!


In March we see both Mars and Jupiter moving into Capricorn to join Saturn. I talk about this in-depth in the video, but the short version is that Mars is exalted in Capricorn, bringing courage, physical activity and discipline the long term goals that Saturn has been setting and slowly working towards there. Mars might quicken the pace, blow up some of the road blocks and generally march in and take over the show as the esteemed guest with all the skills. Jupiter, however, will be bringing his worst game here. In his state of debilitation, our planet of wisdom, our idealism and beliefs is going to be feeling constricted, out of his element and eventually confused. With Saturn there, the practical and harsh realities will be constantly forcing Jupiter's normal expansive hopefulness in. With Mars there, our sense of inspiration will be squashed by the over-importance of doing and working over dreaming and knowing. With the force that drives us being shut down, our long-term efforts and goals will get closer to achieved, but we may forget why we are trying to accomplish them to begin with.
While we can, we should take advantage of the great moment of power available to us, with our voice intact, and our wisdom and discrimination in good dignity. Soon enough, we will have less wisdom and less discrimination in our communication and our noses will be to the grindstone. Namaste
