The Moon will be directly across from the Sun on Tuesday, July 19th in afternoon at 12:57 pm Hawaii Time (-10 GMT). This will be a Full Moon in sidereal Capricorn in the nakshatra of Uttarashada. The Full Moon in the Hindu month of Ashada (June-July) is celebrated as Guru Purnima, a day where we bow down to our teachers, those who have helped to dispel our darkness, and to the Guru within. “Gu” is the darkness and delusion we find ourselves in this world. “Ru” is the light of spiritual teachings that bring us back to our true self. This is a beautiful day to thank a true teacher to you and to practice your sadhana (daily practice) in reverance for all who have walked the path before you and left a path for you to follow in. The Purnima tithi (Full Moon phase) begins at 1:10 pm on Monday July 18th and lasts up until the exact moment of the Sun and Moon opposing each other in the sky. This whole period is auspicious for chanting (especially to Guru), practice and jnana yoga, the yoga of enlightened learning. The Sun being in Cancer offers us a high level of devotional capacity and Capricorn moon will offer us a sense of duty and responsibility.
Uttarashada is the “later victory” that comes from the invincibility of hard work. It is ruled by the Visvadevas, the universal gods who are the children of Visva. They offer us the power of the elements and the ability to have our dreams fulfilled if we put in the necessary energy. When we gather all our resources and tap into our divinity we are able to reach great heights. In Capricorn we are balancing the energy of the Sun in Cancer, where we might have the tendency to give too much in an attempt to be “unconditional” in our love, only to find we are left feeling sad or used. Capricorn is arguably the most selfish sign in the zodiac, giving only when an exact and direct return on its energy is guaranteed. This is helping us to see when and who we should be loving like children, and when and who we should be expecting balance. In Cancer we want to connect, but the Sun's job is to purify and empower. We need to watch ourselves over the next month as we see ourselves over-extending ourselves in an effort to connect, only to find ourselves feeling bereft. In Cancer's emotional waters, we might find our compassion for others and we must remember to find it first for ourselves if we want it to be grounded and genuine when we extend it outward. Both Venus and Mercury are also in Cancer, really accentuating this issue of feeling used in our partnerships and romantic relationships. We may be attempting to mother our partners and finding that it does not serve our needs. We may also find ourselves being particularly needy ourselves in relationship and wanting our partner's to give us more attention than usual as well. With Mercury here, our communication skills have likely taken a plunge into the wet and watery world of emotionally-driven speech and listening skills. With precision being a thing of the past, as well as light-hearted intellectual banter, we are now hanging on to every word we hear, waiting for it to blow our inner world up or out. We may also find that we are digging deep in our desire to say things that reach someone in their most sensitive spot. Self-nourishment is key right now, so that we feel like we are taken care of because we are doing that for ourselves. Water is a lovely place to be, especially in these hot summer months, as it can “match” our emotional state and feel right along with us. Journaling, artistic endeavors and going out to get a massage or performing a healing treatment on yourself can really bring you to a state of self-love and compassion. This past week saw the now-direct Mars enter back into Scorpio, where he is heading towards a still-retrograde Saturn. These two malefics are bringing us back to whatever we started back in February when they first joined forces in Scorpio. Chances are we are getting ready to make a strong decision in one direction or another in this area of our life and right now Mars is leading the forward-moving energy. This might look like anger or perhaps just action or discipline, but it is not likely to feel very good. Saturn is giving dristhi (an energetic glance) to this Full Moon in his own sign of Capricorn, increasing our inclination towards solitude and seriousness. You may feel that same fear you experienced last Friday when the Moon was directly joined Saturn, but in a way where it feels more like it's a stern uncle glaring at you than an intrinsic part of your psyche. It is good energy for making commitments and following through on them. Try to remember to relax, breathe and hydrate. * Sign up for my newsletter and receive a Free Special Report on this Mars/Saturn transit and also this Eclipse cycle for all 12 Vedic Rising Signs, to help you understand what area of your life this is happening! Meanwhile, Jupiter, at the end of Leo is casting a fifth house dristhi during this Full Moon phase, occurring at the end of Sagittarius and very beginning of Capricorn. This will enhance our capacity to search and receive Wisdom from our teachers, or whomever may offer us a way out of the darkness. Due to the frenetic nature of Rahu, who is joined Jupiter, we may have a slightly delusional or aggrandized view of what wisdom we are receiving, or so much desire to connect with teachings that we chase too many, but this is a conjunction we have been experiencing for some time now, so we are used to this by now!
