This New Moon happens at 9 degrees 56 seconds sidereal Scorpio on Tuesday November 26th at 7:05 am PST. The exact part of Scorpio that the Moon and Sun will come together is in the star of Anuradha. This star literally means, “after Radha” and is in reference to the feminine counterpart to the incarnation of Vishnu that is Krishna. The blue flute-playing lord is the “Beloved” and Radha is “the Lover”. (Note: Watch the Video if you want to hear a story of her great devotion!) She is that what attaches itself to the beloved and is therefore, the highest incarnation of devotion. Anuradha brings out this devotion in us, which is important especially in the tumultuous waters of Scorpio, where the Moon is debilitated. With the constant shifts of our moods and emotions, we feel like we are out at sea when the Moon moves through this part of the sky. New Moons are notoriously more depressing because our energy and minds are waning and feeling less excited, less full and less connected to others. Anuradha grounds us in our devotion, if we have it. If we have a part of us that loves something greater than ourselves, then we must anchor ourselves in that now. Meditation or meditative practices are key.
The ruler of Scorpio, Mars, is joined Mercury in the sign of Libra, creating some tension in relationships. We can misunderstand one another now, or cut each other off in conversation, and feel a bit angry about it. We also may slip up a little on our personal discipline and especially physical routine and feel to blame our significant others or other people who we perceive as keeping us from action. Another challenge we are going through in this moment is that Venus and Jupiter are now joined with only 2 degrees distance in Jupiter's sign of Sagittarius. Venus, our planet of relationship and happiness is never wholly satisfied in Sagittarius because there is always some bigger cause or ideal that is more important than simply relating and enjoying in life and time with others. This makes us feel slighted in our personal and intimate relationships and also gives us the feeling of pleasure when engaging in something that feels connected to the bigger picture to us. We are more “turned on” by philosophy, spirituality, religion and our connection to all people and the planet. We are also more likely to hang out in circles that agree with our ideals and beliefs in an effort to enjoy and get along. When Venus is joined Jupiter we have a bit of a battle between doing what is deemed “right” or righteous and doing what feels good and brings us immediate pleasure. With Jupiter in his own sign and therefore quite strong, we are likely to overturn joy for what we believe to be honorable and this can also put a strain on our relationships. Saturn and the South node, Ketu are still both in Sagittarius as well, creating fear and disgust around our beliefs and people who believe differently than us, but they are quite far in degrees from Venus and Jupiter, so the effect on those two areas of our life will be minimal. When Venus does pass over Ketu and then Saturn in the coming weeks, we will see ourselves pull away from relationships and others even more and then perhaps cling or commit to whatever we withdrew from out of place of fear and duty. After a period of relative peace and ease in relationships with Venus in her own sign and then in exchange of signs with Mars, we will unfortunately, have some interpersonal strain as we move into the holidays. ![]() The Full Moon happens at 5:34 am PST on Tuesday, November 12th in sidereal Aries in the star of Bharani. Bharani is ruled by the God of Death, Yama, and is a star of the ultimate initiations of life and death. Yama means to restrain and shows where we must control our sexuality and creativity. Bharani itself means “to bear” like the burden we must bear when we birth something into this world. It is also represented by the yoni, the portal through which we all arrive here on this physical plane. It is where we are creative and inspired, and also must set boundaries in which we can thrive. If we are too open with our energy, we will lose ourselves in a spiral of over-creation and not enough drawing conclusions. If we cut our efforts short before they can fully be, we are never going to bring anything to fruition. On Monday, the day before this Full Moon, we see Mercury crossing over the Sun in its Retrograde state. When both Retrograde and Combust, Mercury is quite powerful, as it exactly crosses the Sun, which is rare, he is mighty indeed. This shows how we will be creative and destructive specifically with our words, our communication and our thoughts. Mercury is one of the two planets that are most engaged in the world of others and how we relate to them. Retrograde Mercury indicates a need to listen, rather than speak and “hold our tongue” unless we have truly thought through what we will say. Combust Mercury indicates a short fuse with our communication; feeling misunderstood and maybe even making jokes to off-set feelings of missed communications. When both of these qualities occur at the same time, we have deep insight into our communications with others (especially in the sign of Libra, where relationships are the field of interest) and are able to read between the lines, and also withhold speaking when it will not be effective or useful. Libra is where we master harmony and “keeping the peace”, a reason why Mercury is so intelligent here, but if we are being harmonious at the expense of being honest to our true discrimination, then we are selling both ourselves and others short. This is why this time is so powerful. We can hold back when necessary, using restraint, and come forward and use our words to create and destroy when it is appropriate as well. Make sure you are birthing ideas, words and communications that will best serve you down the road right now. Not everything or everyone is worth your precious time. Full Moons are always a point of contrast from the New Moon cycle we are within, in this case the cycle of Libra. Libra, as I mentioned, is where we are compromising, balancing and harmonizing. Aries, is where we are moving in the direction we want, and not as aware of others' needs and wants. The action-oriented sign of Aries is represented by a ram because with our heads down, we ram through life in the moment, without looking up or around to see what we might be bull-dozing into. The masculine, fiery side of Mars, it is where we are quick to anger, fight and also have discipline and courage necessary to get things done. Time to be selfish with your energy and move forward on what you want! This Moon will be receiving gaze from both Mars and Jupiter, although both at extremely wide degrees. Mars, just entering Libra, indicates both passion and anger on the horizon in relationships. With Venus, the ruler of Libra in Scorpio, and Mars just entering Libra, we see a powerful exchange of signs between these two, bringing us to find some understanding amidst the passion. Mars in Libra can cause our actions to be more compromising in an effort to connect, making us frustrated that we aren't being more disciplined. This can come out as fighting or passion in our relationships. Venus in Scorpio can be a bit controlling and dramatic, focusing on our own emotional state and fears, as opposed to the actual reality for both people involved in a relationship. With the rulers exchanging signs, they offer each other their strengths to help mitigate some of the challenges they have in each other's home fields and we can see that both healthy compromise and focused action can be possible as long as we are able to separate what we are doing for ourselves and what we are doing for the relationship. Seeing this clearly and leaving room for each person to have their own needs and wants met can offer both peace and passion when we are with our partners and ourselves. Jupiter, gazing at the Moon shows where we are hopeful and inspired in our creativity and will be using our wisdom and teachings to bring forth what we are working on. Now that Jupiter is in his own sign of Sagittarius, he will be showing us a path that is aligned with what we believe and with the ideals that drive us.
