On November 29th at 2:18 am here in Hawaii (GMT-10), the Moon and Sun will come together in sidereal Scorpio. This sets off a cycle of diving deep and penetrating our own emotions to face our fears and battle our inner demons. Scorpio is the feminine side of Mars, making us warriors of our inner world and shows where we have courage, and also where we try to hold control of ourselves and others. Of course, control is just an illusion and brings us deeper into our fears if we don't learn how to let go. The Moon and Sun are joining Saturn, who has been in this sign for two years now, and is creating an atmosphere of heightened fear and anxiety, but also a willingness to commit and do the hard work necessary in whatever area of your life/house Scorpio rules in your Vedic chart. The ruler of Scorpio, Mars, is exalted in Capricorn right now, offering more courage and strength and the ability to direct our anger in ways that our useful and in line with our greater goals. Since Saturn and Mars have exchanged signs, they are both giving one another the strengths that the other lacks...Saturn is offering patience and humility to our sense of action, and Mars is giving Saturn the courage and fire he so sorely needs to overcome our fear.
The specific nakshatra that this New Moon is taking place is called Anuradha, or “after Radha”. This devotional star is named after the lover, Radha, who is the very symbol of bhakti, love for the divine, in her case, Sri Krishna, the beloved. In one story of these two lovers, Radha has been separated from Krishna for a while, as he has had to move to the palace in Dwarka to live out his destiny. He has several wives and everyone worships him. One day he falls ill and no one can cure him. The doctor says that the only thing that will cure him is if someone will take a bit of dust from their feet and place it on his head. No one is willing to do this, as it is an extreme act of disrespect, and they shall risk canceling all the work they have done to release their samskaras, essentially resetting the wheel of time. After everyone refuses, word gets to Radha, still a milk maid in Vrindivan and she immediately rushes to the palace. In one instant, she completes the task without a second thought for her own karma or well being and when she does, she is exalted to divine. She is no longer human and becomes Krishna's other half, the lover and the beloved. Radha is the ultimate devotee and if we are to learn real bhakti, it is actually her that we must follow. Mercury has just moved into Sagittarius, joining Venus for her final days there, bringing our communication to an elevated level. We are done with the emotionally-charged, controlling speech and use of our intellect and are now more interested in raising the conversation to a higher plane. The spiritual, or often just religious, sign of Sagittarius and Mercury can make preachers out of the best of us. Watch out for spiritually bypassing people's very real pain and for standing on a pulpit you are not qualified for. Venus will be moving into Capricorn on December 2nd, giving us a more practical approach to our relationships. Careful that we don't turn people into objects and use them accordingly. Everyone else is not a means to our ends, and in the utilitarian sign of Makara, or the crocodile, we must make sure that we don't forget love and compassion for our significant others and close friends/partnerships. We also become more serious here, often forgetting to have fun and enjoy the pleasures of life just because. This will be heightened by ultra-disciplined Mars being here, giving us the feeling that we need to be doing more for ourselves and less for others. Especially after the bout of the Sun being in Libra, we are ready to take back our power and take action in ways that fulfill our own agendas. When Venus and Mars collide, we can find ourselves having heightened sexuality and this should be no different, but again, be aware of using other people to get your needs met. The cautious gaze of Saturn from emotional Scorpio will likely tune us into when we are doing this and give us the option to respect each other with integrity and a dose of humility. Jupiter is also giving his dristhi, or glance to Venus and Mars in Capricorn and offering us the chance to take the higher road, aligned with our principles and beliefs. This may not be as sexy, but it will likely save us from creating drama we aren't interested in. This drishti from Jupiter will also help us keep our disciplined action in line with our principles and beliefs, although from his place in Virgo, we are a little constricted on those beliefs and not quite as expansive or inspired as we like to be. Likely physical practices are going to be our best path of action right now, yoga asana, other forms of exercise and healing remedies and modalities will be taking center stage now and really throughout Jupiter's tenure in Virgo, which will last until September of next year. Although for the actual New Moon, in Anuradha, we will have the spirit of devotion with us to help inspire us beyond the body and it's functions to remember we are much more than just skin, bones, hair, blood and organs. Shudoshi buddoshi naranjanoshi samsara maya parivarjitoshi. You are not this body, you are an everlasting soul. Blessings on your New Moon! Hare Ohm
