Our New Moon is on August 26, at 10:17 pm HT (August 27th at 1:07 am PDT) in sidereal Leo in the star of Magha. Magha is the "Mighty" and shows from where our power comes. The power we hold is not just in the world or community around us, but within ourselves we each hold the power that feeds and informs the rest of our being and how we act. This is the part of the sky where we must look to the past and remember our ancestors and their wisdom, as well as their fears and challenges. Here we can choose to see our predecessors in the light of right and wrong, or we can experience the rich collage that makes up our lineage; the beautiful, the magnificent and the horrid and ugly. The wisdom is interwoven in the culture; the music, the food, the dress, the social and religious customs all came from somewhere that is either rooted in time and place or the ideological/ spiritual perspective. It is up to us to have insight and discernment as to what to bring forward into the future and what needs to be left behind.
To help us discern what messages we receive, we have an exalted Mercury newly in his own sign of Virgo giving us a clear path towards understanding things as they are, not as we want them to be. Mercury’s ability to think objectively and organize the details here will help us to keep the facts straight. Jupiter across the way in his own sign of Pisces, is offering a more expansive and connective wisdom to the information we gather, allowing us to gain perspective from both grounded reality and the big picture at once. Since beginning Retrograde, Jupiter’s still expanding us out of the lines that we hold within ourselves around our beliefs, but the external manifestation of that process has slowed considerably as we are instead internalizing: questioning, reviewing and re-evaluating our beliefs and ideals. Saturn, too, is Retrograde and in his own sign and can make us feel as though we are taking steps backwards at times. Saturn teaches us practicality, humility and hard work, so it is no wonder that it takes a lot of time to learn those things and that we can feel as though we are spending as much time undoing as doing. We are learning to build things on a solid foundation, and that if we don’t, that which we build doesn’t last as long or even provide us with what we needed from it in the end. We are also learning that no matter how strong the foundation, all things of the world do eventually end, including ourselves. The answer is to turn inside and meditate, to recognize our physical end is also a continuation of our soul, and that ultimately time is unending… infinite. Venus is at the end of her stint in Cancer, in Aslesha the serpentine energy that sometimes doesn’t know when to let go. While in Cancer, we have likely had circumstances where we felt like we were giving more than we were getting in our relationships with partners and other equal adults. We can find ourselves emotional and feeling used or under appreciated and simultaneously using our nurturing energy to try to control or “keep” our other half. Once Venus jumps the Gandanta point on August 31st, into Leo, we might find ourselves suddenly more fired up and bossy, possibly even demanding repayment for all the services we’ve rendered! Venus in Leo is where we are extravagant, proud and affectionate in our relationships, and where we can be a bit demanding of other’s attention and efforts. Since these are transits, we have to recognize that the other person is also experiencing this and feeling like they are the ones not getting as many demonstrations love from you right now. And they will also be experiencing the shift into bossy and big Leo mode, where they will want to be number 1. The place to meet is with loving touch and physical connection; the sweet and nurturing kind while in Cancer, and the fun and playful kind when Venus moves into Leo;-) Mars is giving a direct dristhi, energetic gaze to our Moon and Sun in Leo, and is in the beginning of a 7 month journey forwards and backwards through Taurus. Here he is testing our discipline and reminding us to stop and smell the roses, or eat the grass, lol. We may feel a little lazy at times, but if we remember to do everything we do in the spirit of moving meditation, than we might be halfway to where Saturn is trying to get us! Really finding presence in all our day’s activities, no matter how mundane, is a gift of Taurus, and as long as we don’t wander too far off the path, or fall asleep for too long of a nap, we may find that this kind of self-care, slowing down, showing up for oneself is also quite necessary. We can get agitated at times, when we feel poked and prodded, or when we hold others’ accountable for our own lack of discipline. The Full Moon in sidereal Capricorn is happening August 11, at 3:36 pm HT (6:36 pm PDT) and is in the star of Dhanistha, joined Retrograde Saturn. Dhanistha is where we are consistent and use that steady rhythm to manifest what we are working towards. Saturn retrograde is asking us to reflect upon what we are consistently showing up for and whether or not that actually aligns with what we are trying to manifest. This transit of Saturn in Capricorn has done quite a number on us over the last 2.5 years and is continuing to force us to show up for ourselves more realistically, practically and alone. Meaning no one else can do this particular work for us. With the Full Moon being a reflection of the opposite energy from the New Moon in Cancer two weeks ago, we can see why the little boy in this picture has such a furrowed brow! The Sun, and now Venus, in Cancer, have us mired in a child/parent relationship with life right now, full emotions and a lot of neediness. Just like a child, we might feel like “acting out” if our needs aren’t met and just like a mother, we may feel like over-nurturing everyone around us in a desperate attempt to get those needs met. Saturn joining Cancer’s own ruler, the Moon, is reminding us how things really are and his cold gaze humbles us into remembering how the one choice we always have is how we show up. Is it consistent and steady in the direction of your dreams? Or are you erratic and emotional and begging others to make you feel the way you want to feel? For many of us, it may be a combination of both, or a different perspective all together but Saturn is not letting us off the hook, one way or another! Capricorn asks us to be physically present, practical and focused on survival. Dhanistha is ruled by the 8 Vasu, the rays of light that are the origin of our life after sound itself. Sun, Moon, Stars, and the Elements of Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space. These bring us back to the basics. From this we can create anything our mind can conjure and will, when Saturn goes back into Aquarius in January of 2023. For now, we can focus on all that is wrong, or feels lost, or we can see the disparity between what we have and what we want as an opportunity to grow and refine our tasks in life to better align with where we want to be.
Mars has just separated from the North Node and moved out of Aries, into Taurus, offering us less delusional anger and dispersive fire, but also less discipline and direction. In Taurus, Mars can get lazy, and overly focused on pleasure and feeling good. Now is a great time to hone in your diet, drive up your sexuality and create self-care rhythms that both nourish you and are good for your body. Be mindful that any lack of discipline in your life is your own responsibility and no one else can “make” you choose them over regular, consistent practices or showing up for yourself. It is your own desire for connection and pleasure that is making that choice ;-) Jupiter is also Retrograde in Pisces now, as of July 28th, and will be until November 23rd. This cycle is one where we need to internalize our beliefs, inspirations and spiritual practices and also call into question how we came to these to begin with. If there is any confusion or lack of integrity in what we practice and preach, this will be a time to uncover where that stems from and to make the necessary leaps to come into a more congruent path. Jupiter is quite strong in his own sign of Pisces, but apparent retrograde motion can delay and stall effects in the outer world, so we are less likely to see results, and more likely to be doing internal work in these area of life. This Jupiter is receiving drishti (energetic gaze) from Saturn Retrograde, reminding us to keep it real and not get caught up in the mirage of mysticism and he is also giving drishti to Venus and the Sun in Cancer, reminding us that the highest wisdom is unconditional love, but that does not include over-giving as a means of trying to get love back in return;) For the video on this month’s Full Moon and access to FREE transit reports for all 12 Signs, go to the upper right hand corner (or the pop-up box) and subscribe to my email list!
