The Total Solar Eclipse will be visible across mainland America, starting at 9:05 am Pacific Time and with the Sun completely obscured by 10:18 am Pacific Time. Here in Hawaii we will not be able to see it until after sunrise, with the maximum eclipse visible at 6:35 am Hawaii Time and the Moon leaving the Sun's edge at 7:22 am. It will only be partially visible even at the maximum point here. This eclipse is a powerful end to a cycle that began in January of 2016 when the nodal axis moved into Leo/Aquarius. On a Collective and Individual level we have been obsessed with our Power and Authority and Governance, while pulling away from our bigger, humanitarian view. Progress that could take us to new horizons has been shadowed by the South Node of the Moon, Ketu in Aquarius, giving us the feeling that what we need right now is more power and less innovation and humility. This Big Event that everyone is talking about as the Great American Eclipse is the end of the that cycle. Because it is visible in America alone and happening right on the President of this country's rising sign, it appears as though this country will be the one who's power is eclipsed more than any other. On a personal level this will affect each of us in the House Leo falls in our Vedic Astrology Chart and any planets we might have there. Likely, this area of our life has been highlighted over the last year and a half, so we are pretty attuned to where the shadow is lurking. This New Moon and Solar Eclipse are occurring in the star of Magha, which is related to Kings and ruled by the Pitris, the ancestoral fathers of mankind. It is a star that reminds us of our lineage in this life and others, and the deep connection ancient rulers had to the Divine. Magha is in Regulus, near the forehead of the Lion and is ruled by Ketu the South Node which brings us wisdom from our past lives. Now is the time for the third eye to open and insight to pour in. If we can get past our own power struggles, and sit in the glow of the spiritual fire our ancestors have built, we can receive great insight as to where to go from here.
The Moon will have just passed by Mars debilitated in Cancer, bringing our Anger to the forefront, and will be moving towards a dristhi (energetic glance) with Retrograde Saturn in Scorpio on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing Fear and Pressure to our Mind and Emotions. We received a preview of this Mars and then Saturn dristhi on the Moon last week as it traveled through Aries and Taurus, reminding us of the big open wound in our lives that we've been avoiding and may eventually have to reckon with. Most likely it will come to a strong head when Mars in Leo is in dual dristhi with Retrograde Saturn in Scorpio in early September. We also have Retrograde Mercury in 10 degrees of this New Moon and Eclipse, giving us a chance to think before we speak, or better yet, not speak at all. When Mercury is in Leo, generally we feel like sharing all of our knowledge, even if we are not well-learned on the subject, but Retrograde motion tends to slow down and delay our output of information giving us a chance to review what we think we know before we shout it from the throne. Listening in to the voice from within is necessary now. Take the time to be alone and silent, in nature if possible, to hear the deep messages available now. Rahu on the Sun may be eclipsing our Power, but it can also bring us glimpses of where we want to go and in the star of Magha, it can offer us to move forward with the wisdom of our ancestors instead of their greed and suffering. This August, we see our last two eclipses in the Leo/Aquarius axis and our shift into the Cancer/Capricorn axis. At 5:50 am on August 7th, here in Hawaii, the partial lunar eclipse will begin to be visible reaching it's height at 5:52 am, 3 minutes before Moonset. The Sun and Moon will be exactly opposite one another in the sky at 8:11 am in the culmination of Full Moon, a phase or tithi that begins on August 6th at 6:59 am. While the Moon will be in sidereal Capricorn, in the nakshatra of Shravana, the eclipse point, or node, is still in the beginning degrees of Aquarius, which is why it is only partially eclipsing the Moon. This is the end of phase that began a year and half ago in January of 2016 where we collectively, and individually, have been focused on the government, power, authority, leadership, and strength while pulling away from universal ideologies that take us to new frontiers. The South Node, Ketu, in Aquarius has also affected our capacity to be humble, and to see things through a wider lens. When the nodal axis moves on August 17th, it will begin a cycle where we collectively and indivdually focus more on the nurturing aspects of life and ourselves. The North Node, Rahu, will be in the sign of the Mother, Cancer, where we will find ourselves seeking nurturance, connection, and wanting to be in touch with our feeling nature. We may bring our attention to our own mothers, our children, motherhood in general, and even our Mother Earth. Devotion and Unconditional Love are two main themes of Cancer and while we may not know how to be either of those things, we may find ourselves obsessively chasing external versions of them. Rahu brings chaotic, unlearned energy wherever it goes and Ketu brings past experiences and a withdrawn energy that evokes death where it lingers. Both nodes can bring us a good deal of confusion, and delusion, but they also carry potent possibilities of glimpses into unseen realms and messages from the Divine Within. Ketu will move into Capricorn, pulling us away from the more self-protective, resourceful, hard-working and limited part of ourselves that tends to take care of business in a steady, conservative manner that may leave others feeling hurt or used. It shows us moving towards an ending with regards to Capricorn themes and a completion of some karma that surrounds the house it rules in your Vedic Astrology Chart.
This Partial Lunar Eclipse and the Total Solar Eclipse on August 21st both have the Node that is eclipsing in a different sign than the luminaries (Moon and Sun), signifying the cross-over of the axis that shows where eclipses will occur over the next year and a half. The Nodal points are not actual bodies, rather mathematical points in the sky that indicate the eclipse cycle. In Vedic mythology, the Sun and Moon ratted out Rahu for pretending to be a Deva and receiving the immortal elixir soma at the great churning of the Milky Way. He had already been made immortal by the time Vishnu's discus split him in half. The lower half of his body became Ketu, ending in a tail and the top half Rahu, with a mouth always open but nowhere to digest what he take in. They swore to forever stalk the Sun and Moon and eclipse them. The Sun is our Consciousness, our Power and Soul Connection. The Moon is our Psyche, our Mind and Emotional State. During eclipses we experience a black out (or partial black out) of these luminaries, in which we can either have flashes of great insight or become entangled in a smokey web of deluded truths. What area of your life this happens in is indicated by the houses that Cancer and Capricorn rule in your Vedic Astrology chart, and any planets residing in them. The specific star, Shravana, that this Full Moon falls in is ruled by Vishnu, indicating deep devotion is available here. It is a spiritual star that means “to listen” and is symbolized by an ear. Here we listen deep rather than hear what is happening on the surface. The planet Mars will be in close degrees to the Sun this Full Moon/Eclipse and will be passing over the North Node as it transitions into Cancer. This can bring frenzied Action and a militant sense that Discipline and Order are the only ways to set into motion whatever your chart indicates you are moving towards. Mars is in his sign of debilitation in Cancer and has been for weeks, showing us feeling less powerful and more likely to show our anger in passive aggressive ways, blaming others for our lack of strength and discipline. The Sun also being in the watery sign of the Mother, shows a diminished fire and desire to lead. In these hot days in the Northern Hemisphere, our aggravation may have less outlets in the outside world, cooling off in natural waters can help us feel connected and at peace. In addition, Saturn Retrograde in Scorpio and Jupiter in Virgo are both giving dristhi, or an energetic glance towards this Full Moon. Saturn casting our fears and doubts on our psyche and Jupiter offering some hopefulness and ideological grace, but with the bent that Jupiter in Virgo is generally more constricted and puts more value in facts and information than on the true wisdom Jupiter seeks. Mercury will be moving Retrograde in Leo starting August 12th, lasting until September 5th. This will bring us greater capacity to listen rather than speak as we are slowed down with respect to our communication. Review, Revise and Review again as new information comes your way. Mercury in Leo has a tendency to speak with confidence and authority, regardless of actual knowledge on a matter, and Rahu in Leo has only been making this more automatic and frenzied. This Retrograde motion will help quell our constant desire to “teach” others although Mercury will be moving backwards along with Rahu, so the insatiability may still exist but with more delays and review and less outward explosion of information;-) I will be sending a FREE report to subscribers of my newsletter of the Nodal Shift for all 12 Vedic Rising signs in the next few weeks, so look out for it in your inbox!
