New Moon & Solar Eclipse in Leo

8/30/2016

Picture
On Wednesday, August 31st at 11:04 pm Hawaii Time (-10) there will be a New Moon in sidereal Leo. The Moon and Sun are coming together at 15 degrees 17 seconds of Leo in the specific nakshatra, or star cluster of Purva Phalguni. Purva is “first” and Phalguni is “the reddish lady”, the woman who is ready to be plucked by love. Bhaga, the deity of pleasure and delight, is the god of this star and it is known for being a place of sensual desire, enjoyment, and excess, the lunar abode where we enjoy being Kings and Queens for a day (or if you are blessed with this star in your natal chart than for a lifetime:). It is right in the middle of Leo, the Lion and shows the side of leadership that revels in the perks, rather than executes the order of law or receives wisdom from past wisdom/rulers as the other two nakshatras of Leo offer.

Our theme we are working with now is Ourselves. We are very self-important and standing tall in our own skin. As this New Moon also correlates to an annular Solar Eclipse (visible from places around the Southern Indian Ocean, mostly in Africa), there will be quite the powerful punch to our identity and sense of self. The Eclipse will take place from 8:13 pm August 31st to 2 am September 1st Hawaii time, so again it will not be visible from here or anywhere in the United States, but the energy will strong for meditating, praying, chanting during this period. Solar Eclipses are a natural phenomenon that occur when the Sun passes through specific points on the ecliptic and is “blacked out” by the Moon. In this annular eclipse, there will just be a ring of fire around the dark circle of the Moon. Astrologically, this is a time of intense experiences while we effectively “black out” as well and are either confused/delusional or can have very transcendental experiences. Eclipses happen in cycles where two signs from the zodiac are keepers of the lunar nodes, the mathematical points in space that mark where the eclipses will occur when either a Full or New Moon occurs in that place in the sky. This eclipse cycle that began in January 2016 (first eclipse was in February) is on the Leo/Aquarius axis and here we have the emphasis on the north node, Rahu. Rahu brings an obsessive quality to our Sun/Moon in Leo, fixating our attention on this area of our life, and also on our innate Leo qualities of Leadership, Regality, Dignity and Self-possession. We will have a wake-up call here with a realization of how we can only be leaders if anyone else wants to follow us, and if we are only acting in our own best interest and pleasure, we are not likely to have a lot of people lining up to walk behind us. This energy will best be understand in relation to the house in your chart it falls...

Meanwhile, Venus has just joined Mercury and Jupiter in Virgo and they are forming what is called a Saraswati Yoga in the sky. This is a Union of the artistry and beauty of Venus, the mental acuity, discernment and communication skills of Mercury and the inspiration, higher reaching spirituality of Jupiter. When these three planets join together it is a blessing and a boon. It is important to always note where these yogas take place, and in Virgo, Mercury is not only in his own sign but he also exalted. This usually means that our intelligence and ability to bring clarity to communication will be at its top performance, but Mercury just began his notorious Retrograde action on Tuesday, August 30th and we will be somewhat delayed and confused in our ability to get words and ideas out and receive them in. When Mercury goes Retrograde we are learning how to slow down, revise and relearn. It is an opportunity to think before you speak and to really mull things over rather than making snap judgements. When this happens and Mercury is exalted, we will feel perhaps even more frustrated because the inner expression of our intellect will be so strong and sharp and it will feel only delayed in the outer world. When Mercury is not in as strong of placement, it can be relief to take it slow since the intellect is not working quite as well anyway. Patience will be key. This is also an opportunity to take a break from the world of technology, since you will probably struggle with those communication tools anyway, and instead breathe in the natural wonders around you while you jog, hike or swim.

Likewise, we will want to tap into the qualities of Venus that bring us a desire to connect and find harmony with others, but in Virgo, Venus is debilitated. Her ability to find connection and beauty is impaired by Virgo's harsh critic and insecure prudishness. Being joined the exalted ruler will help us find our grace despite Virgo's tight grip on our happiness, but we will still feel the constriction. Jupiter, our planet of grace, fortune, beliefs and big ideals is also a bit wound up in Virgo's detail-oriented world of facts and ideas. There is not a lot of room for expansion when we are so busy focusing our minds on the nitty-gritty details of every little thing we want to believe in. This is a great time to take to our natural surroundings and our healthy habits. Jupiter in Virgo promotes healthcare as a belief and the ideal that if we take care of our body, we will prevent dis-ease in all areas of our life. Inspiration, Creativity and Brilliance might come in a very Virgo-like way right now, but embracing that and allowing control over outer things such as daily practices can help stimulate Saraswati's artistry and wisdom to flow like a river right through us.

Saturn and Mars are finishing up their tenure together in Scorpio, and Mars will move out and into Sagittarius on September 17th. Whatever final loose ends still need to be cleared up in this area of our lives will continue to come out in tiny spurts as we clean up the carnage from this epic battleground. There is not the same umpf here anymore, as we are trailing away from the exact conjunction on August 24th.

If we feel slightly low on energy now, it is not only because our energy is waning along with the Moon, but it is also due in part to so many of the planets being in either Virgo or Scorpio and both of these tamasic signs bring us a heavy feeling of too much stress, fear and anxiety. Virgo is too much intellectual stress and anxiety and Scorpio brings us emotional stress and fear, and at this point we are very much “over” Scorpio's emotional roller coaster! Take it easy, breathe, and find time to relax when you need to. Pranyama, breath control practices, can ease anxiety and Yin Yoga, especially with deep hip openers can relieve your body of some stuck emotions. Diffuse calming scents like lavender, and uplifting citrus scents like Orange in your home and get plenty of fresh air and exercise. New Moon's are always a time of lower energy and inner reflection, so take time to meditate and reset yourself as this powerful energy eclipses your innate personal power. Blessings on your New Moon and Solar Eclipse! Hare Ohm

Full Moon in Aquarius: An Almost Eclipse of the Mind

Picture
On Wednesday night, August 17th at 11:27 pm here in Hawaii (-10 GMT), the Moon and Sun will be opposite each other and joined the eclipse points in an almost eclipse. We will not see the eclipse as the Moon will be outside of the realm of the South Node, Ketu, but we will certainly still feel some effects! The Moon will be in Aquarius, the innovative sign that pushes new frontiers and expands our social thinking. In the humble abode of the Water Bearer, with the Ketu, the smokey tail of disillusionment, we will find our Full Psyche a bit more reticent to express itself than in other Full Moon's. We may lack the desire or confidence to share our thoughts, ideas, feelings and emotions...but we will feel a futuristic connection to our universal energy simultaneously along with our past existences and ancestry from which we all come. In the nakshatra of Dhanistha we learn the steady rhythms of Time immemorial and we dance to the beat of our own unique drum. Dhanistha is ruled by the Vasu, the deities of the elements; Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Space and the luminaries; Sun, Moon and Stars. The Vasus are the physical embodiment of cosmic shakti, teaching us to put our knowing to good use just as the vast wisdom of the universe is embodied in these elements and bodies in space. This star straddles the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius, having qualities both of the practical and opportunistic Makara (Crocodile) and the highest conceivable intellect of Aquarius (Kumbha).
Our Sun will be across the sky in his own sign of Leo, having just moved there on Tuesday morning August, 16th. In Leo our sense of Power and Leadership will be feeling quite high, as if aligned with our highest soul calling. We will step into our Strength and have Purpose and Dignity while we do. Rahu, the North Node of the Moon is joined the Sun here, as are both Venus and Mercury, although Mercury will be moving on out and into Virgo in just two days and Venus will follow on the 24th. Rahu will be giving a surreal expression to the Sun while he inhabits his own sign, especially as the middle of this Sun cycle brings us right into a Solar Eclipse on September 1st. This will be a time of confusion and delusion with regards to our Power and Authority in whatever house Leo falls for you. Jupiter, only a week into his year long bout in Virgo is surely bringing us to our intellect and discernment, while we do the research to prove to ourselves why we Believe what we believe. For more information on this transit, check out this special report highlighting this long, new transit of our planet of Expansion, Wealth, Beliefs and Teachers...JUPITER.. The biggest blessing in a Jupiter Virgo transit is the increased awareness of our physical health and how important it is to take care of our bodies. Get back into your exercise or yoga routine, eat fruits and veggies and avoid stress and loud environments. Jupiter is the planet of our health and Virgo is where we have a very sensitive system, requiring the purest and most natural healing from the Earth and plenty of greenery surrounding us. Heal anxiety with Essential Oils and Breath Control Techniques, as well as time spent in the garden.

When Mercury joins Jupiter we will feel greater clarity with our words and ideas, and a more detail, research-oriented approach to collecting and dispensing information to others. Our words will help express our beliefs in accurate and down-to-earth terms. We will be more flexible and less bossy! We will also find ourselves with a little less confidence. Venus in Virgo will have us losing our flamboyant edge and opting for a more demure and feminine sexuality. We might find ourselves more reserved in relationship to others, certainly if we are single and in the dating scene. Movies, Museums, Alternative Healing and Nature Dates will appeal to our Venus in Virgo selves, anything that stimulates the intellect and nourishes our bodies. Dress more modestly and be ready for conversation that goes beyond the flirt zone!

Saturn and Mars are coming closer and will be in exact degrees of each other in Scorpio on next Tuesday, August 23rd....Whatever Fears we have been working through since February in the area of our life that Scorpio rules will be coming to head at this point. The icy exterior of Saturn will be exploded by Mars' fiery army of Action, whose been forcing us to face whatever we are most afraid of. As tumultuous as this may be, it is also quite freeing as nothing is more binding and paralyzing than Fear! SPECIAL REPORT: Jupiter moves into Virgo, Saturn goes Direct...and Meteor Showers!      August 11th-13th

8/11/2016

Picture
Early this morning,Thursday, August 11th, Jupiter moved into the sign of Virgo from his placement in Leo for the last year. He will be in Virgo until September 11th, 2017. While he's been in Leo, we may have been feeling more inspired and quite proud of our opinions, willing to share them freely and with authority. As exciting as that may be, he was joined the north node of the Moon, Rahu, adding a frenetic, dillusional, and erratic edge to our idealistic fervor....Now, that he has stepped into the somewhat tamer realm of Virgo, we can expect to dial down the excitement and start diving into the details. In the conservative, practical sign of Virgo, our idealism can feel constricted as we fail to see the bigger picture, and get stuck meandering around the facts and figures. Furthermore, we are far less secure and confident of ourselves in Virgo, so expect a headier, and less bombastic Facebook feed. This will also tone down the energy of our Kings and Queens running for office here in the United States...while the two main candidates have profited from this alignment of Jupiter in Leo, they will now be pulled into a place of heavier scrutiny and a combing through of the details. Single sentence tag lines and not being the other guy (or girl) won't get them quite so far, as people begin to see their own faults in others, picking them and their beliefs and policies apart, especially political leaders and teachers. It would appear as though Donald Trump has profited the most from this past placement of Jupiter, with this planet of luck and fortune on his rising sign. It also feeds into his "Lion-like" image of being a killer out in the world who won't be pushed around. While Bernie Sanders was more of the ideologue who inspired the masses than Hillary Clinton, she has her own royal image as the people who have supported her generally point to the fact that they think she has experience and would win the election as the main reason to vote for her. She is the picture of Big Government, being ushered onto her throne as if she is an heir to it, despite her lack of popularity with the people. Both Trump and Clinton benefit from this eclipse cycle, which will be continuing on for another 10 months, as Rahu in Leo makes us more inclined towards rulership and self-preservation, and Ketu in Aquarius pulls us away from a more humanitarian, future-minded vision. The most exciting factor in all this will be seeing less and less regular people telling you who you HAVE to vote for, and why you HAVE to do it:-)

In the larger picture, however, this will be a less inspired time for us all in our own lives, ideologies and teachings, but a good time to really evaluate what you believe in and use your buddhi (your discrimination) to understand why you believe it.

Saturn, who has been stalled in a Stationary Direct position for several days, giving us a feeling of being frozen and unable to move forward with our hard work and commitments, is about to move forward again August 12th at 10:40pm Hawaii time (early morning August 13th on the mainland US). He has been giving his severe glare (dristhi) to Venus, Mercury, Rahu and until this morning, Jupiter, from this stuck position, causing us to feel stuck on many levels. His movement forward will be welcome relief from not only this, but from his Retrograde motion that has been causing us much uncertainty and fear, questioning what we are committed to in our lives (in whatever house Scorpio falls in your Vedic chart) since March of this year. Mars and Saturn have been joined here since February and will finally come face to face August 23rd, giving us some closure, however painful, on this area of our life and our confusion surrounding it.

*Sign up for my email list to receive your FREE report, "Mars and Saturn for all 12 signs", with extra bonus of the upcoming eclipse cycle explained for your sign as well! The next eclipse is September 1st!! *

The Moon is joining Mars today (Thursday) and Saturn tomorrow, going through this rough patch we've been experiencing every month, but heightened by a stalled Saturn and on the heels of such a stuck and challenging early week. Expect to feel much relief by the end of the weekend!

Finally, we have Perseid Meteor Showers happening the next 3 nights. The best time to watch them is after midnight and in a place of high altitude with no lights. Here in Hawaii there will be plenty to see from lower vantage points also, but if you can make it to Volcano and avoid looking near the lava light of the crater, you will get the best view. The peak of the show will be in the early hours of Aug 12th and 13th! For more information, Google where you live and meteor showers, there are plenty of sites offering sky maps, timetables and information on the showers themselves.
Happy Viewing and Hare Ohm!

New Moon in Cancer: The Embrace of the Mother

8/1/2016

Picture
This New Moon falls at 10:45 am on Tuesday, August 2nd here in Hawaii (-10 GMT) in the sign of Cancer in the nakshatra of Ashlesha. In the watery, emotional realm of Cancer, where the Sun has already been for a couple weeks, we are more likely to feel a desire to connect with others and to give. Cancer is the sign of the Mother and we have the feeling of unconditional love here, wanting to envelop everyone (especially those we love) with our nurturing embrace and tender loving care. While it is a beautiful and natural phenomenon to feel unconditionally loving towards our children, it can be unhealthy for most of us to relate to the other adults in our life in this way. We must learn to have this unconditional love first towards ourselves, nourishing and nurturing our own Selves so that we are able to give to others from a cup that is overflowing already. Often we end up feeling as though we have given all of our power to others and are depleted ourselves. The Sun is our Power and our Higher Consciousness, and in Cancer, we can have a tendency to feel powerless as we seek outside ourselves for confirmation of our self-worth. Offering up our power to a higher source is one of the gifts of this devotional sign, and the thing that can save us from wearing ourselves thin from too much effort and emphasis on others. We must beware of the famous side-step walk that is the nature of the crab, avoiding anything that might cause upset or turmoil and hiding until the danger is out of sight. This can make us seem untrustworthy and we can end up losing the very things we are trying to protect. The Moon is in her own sign here, so psychologically it feels quite good to relate and feel, and love. Swimming around in our own emotional puddle can be very nourishing right now, allowing our feelings to flow like water around and through us. This is a good time to connect with friends who you trust, especially friends of the same gender, and to spend time near or in water.
The nakshatra this New Moon falls in is called Ashlesha, the serpent star. Ashlesha shows where we go so deep into our emotions that we latch hold, wrapping ourselves around what we love so hard we squeeze the air out of it. This is the place where we cling, and have a very hard time letting go. As we've already been dealing in the realm of Cancer for a couple weeks now and Venus, our relationship planet, has just exited out of Cancer, we are likely coming to head with these issues of how we cling and grasp to the connections we so desperately want and then find we are unable to let them go. When we give and give, supposedly from the heart, but really expecting that same nurturance in return, we will always find ourselves disappointed and broken-hearted. The blessing and lesson is that eventually whatever we hold onto so tight, will either die or free itself, so we will have to learn how to let go and hopefully, not to cling so tight the next time around.

We have Venus, Mercury, Jupiter and Rahu in the Sun's own sign of Leo right now...creating quite a stage for us to stand on despite our lack of personal power. We might find ourselves compensating in our relationships and communication for our own feelings of being used by grand-standing, using big speech and preaching our personal gospel to anyone willing to listen. Jupiter is on his way out of Leo, where he's been in for the last year joined the illusional and obsessive North Node Rahu, making his way into the practical, detail-oriented realm of Virgo on August 11th. This transit will last for a year, until September 11th, 2017. Up front we can expect to see a major step down on the Facebook feed of loud assertions telling us what we should believe or do with your vote, as we will all dive deeper into the nitty gritty details rather than the flash and frenzy surrounding this election here in the U.S... Thank Goddess!! We will experience far less confidence in our beliefs in general, and certainly in asserting them. On the less exciting front, we will feel less idealistic and inspired and more like accountants drudging our way through paper work as we sort through what we believe and think. Virgo is a constrictive energy for the expansive nature of Jupiter and it can limit our ability to find the heart in our philosophies by an attachment to the small print. Notice the ways in which your criticisms and judgements of others reflect your own nasty feelings about yourself and try to work towards healing yourself from the outside in. The earthy sign of Virgo, loves nature and natural healing techniques and as we tend to hold our psychological and emotional baggage and patterns in the body, this is a good time to get back into your belief that taking care of your body temple will ultimately heal your heart as well.

Mars and Saturn are still moving towards each other in the tumultuous realm of Scorpio, about 10 degrees apart at the time of the New Moon. They will be in exact degrees later in the month, but for now we are still feeling that squeeze as they press in towards each other in the sign of our fears, both real and imagined. Whatever house this is for you is likely feeling that final blow, that began in February, has been brewing ever since and is just about ready to explode one way or the other by the end of August!
