The Moon will be directly across from the Sun on Tuesday, July 19th in afternoon at 12:57 pm Hawaii Time (-10 GMT). This will be a Full Moon in sidereal Capricorn in the nakshatra of Uttarashada. The Full Moon in the Hindu month of Ashada (June-July) is celebrated as Guru Purnima, a day where we bow down to our teachers, those who have helped to dispel our darkness, and to the Guru within. “Gu” is the darkness and delusion we find ourselves in this world. “Ru” is the light of spiritual teachings that bring us back to our true self. This is a beautiful day to thank a true teacher to you and to practice your sadhana (daily practice) in reverance for all who have walked the path before you and left a path for you to follow in. The Purnima tithi (Full Moon phase) begins at 1:10 pm on Monday July 18th and lasts up until the exact moment of the Sun and Moon opposing each other in the sky. This whole period is auspicious for chanting (especially to Guru), practice and jnana yoga, the yoga of enlightened learning. The Sun being in Cancer offers us a high level of devotional capacity and Capricorn moon will offer us a sense of duty and responsibility.
Uttarashada is the “later victory” that comes from the invincibility of hard work. It is ruled by the Visvadevas, the universal gods who are the children of Visva. They offer us the power of the elements and the ability to have our dreams fulfilled if we put in the necessary energy. When we gather all our resources and tap into our divinity we are able to reach great heights. In Capricorn we are balancing the energy of the Sun in Cancer, where we might have the tendency to give too much in an attempt to be “unconditional” in our love, only to find we are left feeling sad or used. Capricorn is arguably the most selfish sign in the zodiac, giving only when an exact and direct return on its energy is guaranteed. This is helping us to see when and who we should be loving like children, and when and who we should be expecting balance. In Cancer we want to connect, but the Sun's job is to purify and empower. We need to watch ourselves over the next month as we see ourselves over-extending ourselves in an effort to connect, only to find ourselves feeling bereft. In Cancer's emotional waters, we might find our compassion for others and we must remember to find it first for ourselves if we want it to be grounded and genuine when we extend it outward. Both Venus and Mercury are also in Cancer, really accentuating this issue of feeling used in our partnerships and romantic relationships. We may be attempting to mother our partners and finding that it does not serve our needs. We may also find ourselves being particularly needy ourselves in relationship and wanting our partner's to give us more attention than usual as well. With Mercury here, our communication skills have likely taken a plunge into the wet and watery world of emotionally-driven speech and listening skills. With precision being a thing of the past, as well as light-hearted intellectual banter, we are now hanging on to every word we hear, waiting for it to blow our inner world up or out. We may also find that we are digging deep in our desire to say things that reach someone in their most sensitive spot. Self-nourishment is key right now, so that we feel like we are taken care of because we are doing that for ourselves. Water is a lovely place to be, especially in these hot summer months, as it can “match” our emotional state and feel right along with us. Journaling, artistic endeavors and going out to get a massage or performing a healing treatment on yourself can really bring you to a state of self-love and compassion. This past week saw the now-direct Mars enter back into Scorpio, where he is heading towards a still-retrograde Saturn. These two malefics are bringing us back to whatever we started back in February when they first joined forces in Scorpio. Chances are we are getting ready to make a strong decision in one direction or another in this area of our life and right now Mars is leading the forward-moving energy. This might look like anger or perhaps just action or discipline, but it is not likely to feel very good. Saturn is giving dristhi (an energetic glance) to this Full Moon in his own sign of Capricorn, increasing our inclination towards solitude and seriousness. You may feel that same fear you experienced last Friday when the Moon was directly joined Saturn, but in a way where it feels more like it's a stern uncle glaring at you than an intrinsic part of your psyche. It is good energy for making commitments and following through on them. Try to remember to relax, breathe and hydrate. * Sign up for my newsletter and receive a Free Special Report on this Mars/Saturn transit and also this Eclipse cycle for all 12 Vedic Rising Signs, to help you understand what area of your life this is happening! Meanwhile, Jupiter, at the end of Leo is casting a fifth house dristhi during this Full Moon phase, occurring at the end of Sagittarius and very beginning of Capricorn. This will enhance our capacity to search and receive Wisdom from our teachers, or whomever may offer us a way out of the darkness. Due to the frenetic nature of Rahu, who is joined Jupiter, we may have a slightly delusional or aggrandized view of what wisdom we are receiving, or so much desire to connect with teachings that we chase too many, but this is a conjunction we have been experiencing for some time now, so we are used to this by now! In the early morning hours of July 4th, at 1:01 am Hawaii Time (-10 GMT) the Moon and Sun will join together in the sign of Gemini in the nakshatra of Ardra. As the Sun has been in Gemini for a few weeks already, joined the ruler, Mercury, and Venus, we have been experiencing an abundance of intellect, and an avid desire to read, speak and share our knowledge with others. When the Moon joins the Sun, our Psyche (our mind and emotions) comes into Union with our Soul Power and we feel those thoughts and feelings dissipate to Shunya, emptiness or zero. New Moons are like a reset button where we blank out and then begin a new cycle. Since we have been experiencing this reset halfway through a Sun's cycle it's really serving to give us a new perspective on what we've been doing and experiencing, offering an opportunity to adjust and refine the energy we're using instead of just moving on to new energy altogether. In this case, we are learning to use our intellect in conscious ways, instead of just piling up facts and information uselessly. We have been in a bit of a whirlwind mentally, sucking dry much of our physical power with both the Sun and Mars in sociable air signs, and we are in need of some containment and refinement of our resources.
Ardra is the stormiest of stars, located in the constellation of Orion (the star of Betelgeuse) and is a place in the sky where we tend to shoot down anything we perceive or judge as wrong, without always getting the full picture. Collectively, our judgements have raised to a sky-high level and we seem to be eviscerating anything that doesn't jive with our ideas of right and wrong these days. Ardra means "The Moist One" and is represented as a rain or tear drop. The nakshatra that follows Ardra, Purnavasu, where Venus is currently, is where we see the wreckage we have created and our tears of mourning spring forth new life. Sometimes it requires utter destruction in order to see the light and this can happen on both an inner and an outer plane. With so many planets involved in this New Moon's stormy awakening, we are likely to experience the fireworks Sunday night first, with Monday's light show in the U.S. being more of a memorial of what we've just been through. Remember to meditate and find some solitude at least this weekend, saving celebration for Monday after the storm. Celebrating, hopefully, a new awakening within ourselves of how when we hang others, we hang ourselves. The more we condemn and attack each other, the more we personally pay the price in our newly created prisons made of judgements and black and white "rightness". Our relationship planet, Venus has already moved through it, so perhaps we have seen the pain we've caused in our partnerships and personal happiness a bit already and are more open to Love, even if we are still learning how that works. Mars has just begun his direct motion again, still in Libra until July 12th. More than ever we are aware of how we've been sloughing off our discipline, often for more social engagements and we need to be aware that the power to Do or not Do always lies within ourselves. It is no one else's fault that we have strayed from ourselves and our personal power, and no one else can fix it. When he moves back into his own sign of Scorpio July 12th, we will see Action step up, and we will find we are less agreeable to being thrown off track or diverted from the cause we began in February when he first entered Scorpio. Saturn is still moving Retrograde till late summer, and as these two move towards one another, we will experience quite the squeeze...it may even feel like it is crushing us, but it will be the catalyst we need to pull ourselves up and out of this situation to begin with. (You can reference reports from February for more information on this transit and when Mars goes back into Scorpio I'll offer the report for all 12 rising signs again for any subscribers that joined my list since I originally sent it out). Jupiter has been running in exact degrees with Rahu in Leo, and is now only 2 degrees away, causing much of the judgements to be in the political arena, while pundits and lay people alike take to their pulpits to screech their views in wild and often delusional manners. We are angry and confused with misinformation leading the way and the affairs of foreign people and governments seem to be closer to home than ever. Again, our lesson must be to gather all the information and use sound discernment to discover truths and enlighten yourself and others....as opposed to taking a few facts and bombing the crap out of anyone who speaks against your very strong, newly made stance that is definitely right! My wish for all of us on this New Moon and as we move forward into the dawn of a new day, a new waxing of the Moon is that we find some peace. Within first, so we can spread that to others instead of our fear, anger and pain. We are all beings of Light and Love. To be truly Free is to free ourselves of the inner turmoil so that we can listen to our own buddhi, higher intellect, and discern truth for ourselves, allowing everyone else that same right and freedom....Offering only love and support to one another because life is hard enough and if one person suffers, we all suffer for we are all One.
