This Saturday and Sunday, June 20th-21st, the Sun, Moon, and Mercury now Retrograde are joining the north node, Rahu for a total annular solar eclipse. It will be happening at 11:40 pm Saturday June 20th, PST, so we will not actually witness the blackout and “ring of fire” here on the West Coast, but on the other side of the earth, they will see the Sun at least partially covered from 8:45 pm PST Saturday to Sunday June 21st at 2:34 am PST. The max point of the eclipse is one minute before the exact degrees of the New Moon. This is right on the heels of Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, where we begin to see our power (the Sun) decline readily towards winter and darkness. A solar eclipse is an eclipse on that power, and so this timing is quite aligned towards moving away from the rule of powerful strongholds who have been in control.
It is happening in the early degrees of Gemini, in the star of Mrigasira. Mrigasira is the “deer's head” and shows us on a search for truth. In the mythology, Rohini (the preceding star) is running away from her father, the creator. She turns herself into a deer to get away and heads down towards earth. He is certain that what works for him (to procreate with his daughter to have the most perfect children) is what is best for the world. She disagrees and ends up receiving help from the powerful and ruthless form of Shiva, Rudra, who shoots him down. Before this tragic beginning to Earth's creations, we just see the young maiden creatively and intuitively moving towards what she knows to be right, despite what her powerful father is telling her is right. This is very potent right now as we all must seek truth in the midst of great powers that have their own version of what they want us to do and what is “good for us.” This eclipse is an extremely important turning point in our year and a half-long cycle of Rahu in Gemini. We have had an explosion of mis-information, propaganda and lies since the end of January 2019, and we are finally at the beginning of the end of this cycle. We are learning discernment in the midst of mass delusion. We are uncovering great untruths that are deeply steeped in our long-standing beliefs that we mostly inherited. We have been operating on a very large-scale confirmation bias and allowing anything that fit our pre-existing ideologies to enter the arena as “truth”. The real truth is that our belief systems and ideologies are not even our own. We did not actively choose them, but we do have to actively work to eradicate them because they were planted within us upon our entrance into this world. This is not a comfortable thought. We like to think of ourselves as newly here and having worked for all that we have and responsible for all we have not. This idea comforts us because it gives us hope that we can always work harder and have more, and it also gives us the feeling that we deserve everything in our lives and then of course, so do others. We can see how, right now, in this moment we are being forced to reckon with this. The prenumbral lunar eclipse two weeks ago was a turning point on us recognizing our ingrained tendencies and indoctrinated belief systems, and how the information we put out and receive in this world largely works to uphold those beliefs. If we can't get to the root of the issue there, then the information and communication will forever show that. The good news is we have one more prenumbral lunar eclipse coming up on the other side of the node July 5th, so we still have some time to hammer home the lesson;-) Of course, for each of us this will affect a specific area of our life and there are certain themes that are up for us due to the axis it represents in our own personal natal chart. If you want to know how this affects you specifically, you can contact me for a reading. This eclipse is also happening right after Mercury, the ruler of Gemini begins his Retrograde cycle, giving us even more opportunity for confusion and chaos in communication and information, in addition to the more deceptive and intentional mirages being woven in the name of hidden beliefs. Expect the usual Mercury retrograde computer/phone/email issues, but perhaps they will also help us see past the intricately crafted theatre by malfunctions from behind-the-scenes. Mars, freshly in the sign of Pisces, will also be giving dristhi,an energetic gaze, to these planets in Gemini and giving us some anger directed at the sources of information. In the watery sign of the fish, our actions can be without direction and our anger can be emotional, but it can also be directed towards high, universal matters. We are certainly getting tired of all the lies and at some point have to understand that truth itself must be excavated from each of us deep within; it will not be spread out over megaphones because that is not it's nature. This is a week before Venus begins her direct motion again (June 25th) and Jupiter finds his way back into his home sign of Sagittarius (June 29th). In other words, we have one more week of all planets being retrograde except Mars. It also means we will not be blessed with those two planets operating at a higher functionality and intelligence on this weekend. This is unfortunate, because Venus in her own sign, direct, would help us output more friendliness, harmony and peace. Jupiter in his own sign, even still Retrograde, and especially as the current ruler of the lunar eclipse point, Ketu that has been imploding our long-held beliefs, would be more inclined to reach wider and more expansively for truth within ourselves. Fortunately, the July 5th lunar eclipse in Sagittarius will host him back in his own house and we should be able to find our wisdom internally a little better. It won't be until Jupiter goes direct on September 12th that we will really be able to manifest that wisdom outside of ourselves, however. Solar Eclipses are always a time for reflection, meditation and quiet, not a time to be out and about and engaging in regular activities. The timing is such that for much of it, many will be asleep here in the US, but across the world in Asia and Africa, they will be experiencing the most potent version of it. Either way, each of us will feel it in the house that is Gemini and the power that is being eclipsed will be held in whatever house the Sun rules for you (Leo). This Friday at 12:12 pm PST the Moon will be directly across from the Sun in sidereal Scorpio. We will also have the south Node, Ketu eclipsing the Moon from its station in Sagittarius.[The maximum point of the eclipse will be at 12:24 pm, and it will span from 10:45 am-2:04 pm.] Scorpio is where we are the most emotional and fearful, which is why the Moon is debilitated here. It is a place where we need great courage and strength, to face our deepest fears. The Moon is where we feel, emote and connect, not fight inner battles and demons, so it is a challenging time. The nakshatra that the Moon is full in is Jyestha, the eldest. Ruled by Indra, the king of the gods, Jyestha shows both great courage and valor, and great folly due to ego. Here we can save the world, but also destroy it. Ruled by Mercury in the Vimshottari dasha scheme, it also shows where discernment is key in determining the outcome of our energy. The South node is eclipsing from Mula, the root. This star, on the Gandanta point where water ends and fire begins, is known for creating chaos and destruction. Ruled by Niritti, the goddess of this destruction, this is where we literally rip out from the roots what is not working and re-design a world that is founded on our beliefs and ideals. Since the Moon is in Scorpio and the eclipse point in Sagittarius, this is a prenumbral eclipse, meaning it will only be faintly visible to those in the region where it can be seen. This will be Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia. Given the circumstances we are in socially right now, especially in the U.S, we can see how our deep-seated beliefs are coming out to dance on the corpses of the systems and structures they upheld. Expect it to be messy, and emotional, but also incredibly healing if we choose to do the work and listen. If we are busy in the practical world, we won't be receptive to the messages from our personal and collective pasts. Take this time to meditate, stay in, stay quiet and if possible engage with the element of water. With Mars, the ruler of Scorpio, direct and in action in the socially-conscious sign of Aquarius, we are still in a state of uprising and protest. This is where we direct our action and anger towards social change and a new future that works for everyone. Expect the kings to be less than thrilled. Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius, is still joined Saturn, both Retrograde in Capricorn. This is causing us to question our beliefs, especially the ones that we have held for the last couple months as Jupiter moved into Capricorn. Capricorn is where we feel fear and act practically in self-preservation mode in order to get what needs to be done done, preferably before we die. We are questioning the constricting and fearful ideals that have led us to here, and we are also questioning our commitments to the long-term path we have felt indebted to, since January. The good news is Jupiter will be back in his home sign of Sagittarius soon, and while he will still be Retrograde, we will be accessing the parts of us that know there is better and higher wisdom than what we have been following. Venus is also still Retrograde and joined the Sun, opposite the Moon, giving our relationships a reflective mode. It might seem like we are going over old ground, and having to re-learn lessons we though we already did when it comes to relating, and that is exactly what is happening. Old loves, old patterns and even re-kindling of romance is all possible and likely here. Go with it, and while you are at it, meditate on what actually brings you peace, makes you happy and fills you with love. Mercury broke us out of the Kala Sarpa yoga (or “time snake”)we were traveling for the last few months and now, in his own sign of Gemini, our discrimination and intellect have us seeing more clearly what is fact from fiction. While our information sources are getting clearer, we are due for a solar eclipse in Gemini in a couple weeks and it will coincide with Mercury's own Retrograde cycle, making us have to relive and replay some of the last few months of confusing and deluding media and communication again. Enjoy the *slightly* clearer mind-space for now and make room for allowing deep insights, as opposed to more clutter. Lokah Samasta Sukinoh Bhavantu. May all beings be happy and free.
