The Moon and Sun will join forces in exact degrees Friday, May 22nd at 10:39 am PST in sidereal Taurus, in the star of Krittika. Krittika is “Cut off” and is where the Pleiades is located. The seven wives of the sages are impersonated by Swaha, in an effort to win the love of the fire god, Agni. He only had eyes for them, and so seduces him in 6 of the 7 forms and takes his seed and puts it in a lake in the mountains. The 7th wife, Arundhati, had such strong love for her husband Vashistha, that Swaha's magic was useless. She then passed the rumor around of their infidelity, and the sages believed it, casting their wives to the stars. There they continue to sit, in prominence, having been cut-off from their husbands and their lives. The story continues that Shiva's own seed gets placed in this lake and eventually a wild and wicked child is born. He is so unruly that the gods decide he must be put to death and send him to the stars to these 6 women to kill him. They decide instead to nurse him and become his mothers. He then becomes the child-warrior that is able to defeat the great demon, Tarakasura, and he is reclaimed as the son of Parvati and Shiva, the Earth Mother, Ganga, Agni and of course the women who spared his life, the Krittika. He is named Kartikeya. Krittika is where the Moon is exalted because, it is where we can cut through the excess emotion and feel what is true. It is where our unconditional love that connects us to others is strong and discerning. In the sign of Taurus, it is where we can relax into the physical comfort of needs well-met and feel grounded and happy. The ease and steadiness of the bull is a welcome respite from the chaos and confusion that exists in many of the other signs. This particular New Moon cycle, the ruler of Taurus is Retrograde. Venus, along with Saturn and Jupiter began her retrograde motion last week and is hence bringing us to a more introverted and contemplative form of happiness. The ease and grace we have been experiencing perhaps in the garden, kitchen and in relationships is beginning to get backed up and we are wondering, “Is this too good to last?”. Truth be told, we don't like to run over old ground with any of our aspects, but perhaps least of all with Venus, because most of us prefer to keep the peace in our relationships. If it works well enough, then let it be. If we are happy enough, isn't that enough? Venus Retrograde teaches us the difficult lesson that good enough isn't. Comfortable isn't the same as happy and sometimes we have to run over old ground (and relationships) to understand why. Mercury is also joined here and while the communication planet is one of the few that isn't retrograde right now, we can still expect the flow of communication in relationship to be halted. It is the internalization of Venus energy that is now outwardly expressing, and if we aren't clear on it, it is hard to express or understand in clear terms. If you want to know how Mercury is going to be bringing us a lot more discernment and clarity in the next few weeks, watch the video! Saturn and Jupiter Retrograde are also discussed in more detail in the video. Both Mars and Jupiter retrograde are giving their one-way gaze, or dristhi to this New Moon and raising the potential for questioning relationships where our beliefs and ideas do not align. If you have friends, partners, and family members who strongly disagree with your world view or how you see the future social structures unfolding, this could be a fiery and disruptive time for that bond. While Jupiter has us, intelligently, questioning what beliefs we've been subscribing too, and moving in the direction of finding our hope and inspiration again, Mars has us fighting what we consider the “good fight” from the socially-conscientious sign of Aquarius. There we see how those in charge might be creating inequality and benefiting from it, but beware because others might see that too but from a completely different angle. We are all right, in some regard, and yet we are also all very misled by information. The opportunity to deepen relationships based on mutual respect and understanding is available, but of course, so is the potential to “cut-off” ties that you believe are no longer serving your ideal of happiness. The Moon will be directly across from the Sun on Wednesday, May 7th at 3:45am in sidereal Libra in the star of Vishakha, often referred to as the “forked or branched”. The sound “Vi” is about distinction and in this star we are able to find our distinct path over time. Libra is generally about compromise and getting along with others. Here we see that in romance, work and personal life we want to ultimately find harmony. Often times we have to give a little in order to get that. In Vishakha we are learning that if we take our true soul's path, those that we are meant to be around will find us, but if we compromise on our most important values, we will always be lost in the woods of people-pleasing. At this epic juncture in our collective, we each must find our way, and know that our efforts will produce fruits over time. One of the symbols of Vishakha is a tree that has deep roots and whose branches have had time to grow in strength and are now offering rest in their shade. Another is a potter's wheel, indicating the patience and perserverance necessary if we are to truly walk our path.
We can learn a lot about these qualities now as the ruler of Libra, Venus, is her other sign of Taurus till the end of the summer and while about to start her Retrograde motion, we will still be ruminating on the ways to best walk our path with purpose but also pleasure. If we hurry and rush and force things, we will not necessarily get their faster. The pitfalls and setback along the way can cost just as much time, as moving at a more measured pace, without the beauty and harmony of getting to enjoy the walk through the woods. As both the Sun and Mercury will be moving into Taurus next week, we will see this energy begin to guide our way and our communication more and more, leading into the New Moon in Taurus, where it will be our collective vibe for a full moon cycle. The other place where we have been learning about taking practical steps in direction of a long-term goal is with all the planets in Capricorn. Mars, our planet of action and discipline has just left this building and is going to take our anger into the realm of society and all the many structures that keep the power in the hands of the few and leave the people without. Expect to see more social uprising, on all sides, as both Jupiter and Saturn will also (along with Venus) be moving Retrograde by May 14th. As they have been holding court with Mars here, much of our energy has been devoted to the long-term survival of ourselves and the whole, but largely coming from a fear-based perspective. This is a time where individually and collectively we will be questioning our belief systems and governance, as well as what we have been afraid of and are committed to. The veil is beginning to lift on our relationship with information explosion (Rahu in Gemini) and the very long-held, fight-till-we-die beliefs we have handcuffed ourselves to (Ketu in Sagittarius). By the end of this month, we will break free of much of the dillusion that has been holding us hostage and we will begin to see with clarity what truly is. Anything that we can imagine, can be, but we have been stuck in the pre-written narratives of those who rule by fear. On all sides, the message has been fear; it is up to us as individuals to write a new narrative and start living it into being. We each must walk our path of distinction and find each other in the light that shines through the trees. Blessed Full Moon!
