!Astrology is a system of studying the universe and our place as humans in it. It is likely as old as the humans that first stared up at the sky and wondered what all the lights were and why it was dark sometimes and light at others. Evidence shows that the Sun and solar system existed 4 1/2 Biliion years ago. The first life beyond a single-cell organism didn't emerge until 500 million years ago. And it was well after that the first homo sapien would've pondered what was happening in the sky and why. So in this sense the Sun and the Moon are like the original couple... Adam and Eve hanging out Eden/Space, waiting for some other stuff to appear. And in the words of Sam Geppi, my teacher, "they literally allow life to be here". Without them we would not be here to stare at them and wonder why they eclipse each other and don't hang out in the same "room" very often or for very long. Astrology is not only the first step towards modern day astronomy, but the first step to consideration of cosmology altogether. Many cultures have their own systems of deriving wisdom about ourselves from the planets and stars and they all have validity. I practice Vedic Astrology, or Jyotish, the Astrology of the Vedic Sciences originating in India. Due to the fact that most people are familiar with Western Astrology and it is actually where I began my search into the stars, I describe both systems briefly below.

Most Westerners think of Western Astrology when they hear the word "astrology", because that's what the horoscope you check in the newspaper is based on, and likely, the little diddy that comes in your inbox... Western astrology refers to the astrology that originated in Mesopotamia during the 2nd millenium B.C and made it's way to Greece, where Ptolemy laid out the foundations of what is now used to form a person or event's chart. There is evidence that the Greeks got some of their methodology from the Vedic System as well. The Western astrological system uses the tropical zodiac beginning with the sign of Aries at the Northern hemisphere Vernal Equinox always on or around March 21 of each year. Due to a phenomenon called precession of the equinoxes (where the Earth's axis slowly rotates like a spinning top in a 25,700 year cycle), there is a slow shift in the correspondence between Earth's seasons (and calendar) and the constellations of the zodiac. For this reason, Western astrological signs do NOT actually link up with accurate placements in the constellations, or in other words, what we are seeing happening in the sky right now. Vedic Astrology
Vedic Astrology, or Jyotish ("Jyoti" meaning "light" or "eye", "ish" meaning "God" or "nature" ) is based on the concept of Sanatana Dharma...that which all things Vedic stems from. Santana Dharma simply means "Eternal Truth" and is the idea that each one of us have a universal goal and purpose that is the same...to realize the Truth. Our personal dharma relates to and helps us reach that bigger truth, but collectively we all want the same thing and that is simply to realize experientially this higher truth that we are not separate beings. Jyotish dates back to over 7000 B.C. being passed in the oral tradition and used in every facet of life in India from then until the present. It was first mentioned in writing in the Atharva Veda, 4-5,000 years ago. The depth and scope of Vedic Astrology is so vast that we will simply differentiate from Western astrology here by saying that it uses the sidereal zodiac (as opposed to the tropical), which is based on the fixed stars, and therefore does not need to account for that gradual precession of the vernal equinox mentioned in the Western Astrology section. Unlike, Western astrology, it IS what you see if you look up in the sky. Jyotish has many methodologies for looking into people's life other than just assessing the natal chart.... such as dashas, planetary periods in one's life which are broken down into Mahadashas, major periods lasting up to 20 years, and subdashas, the periods within the Mahadashas. It also takes into account nakshatras, lunar mansions, 27 sectors along the ecliptic which further break down the individual zodiac signs into 2 1/2 sections. Teachings
Alexis was introduced to Vedic Astrology by Dennis M. Harness, PhD at her advanced yoga teacher training in an Ayurvedic program, and was instantly captivated with the depth and capacity of this ancient science. She has done countless hours of study with her primary Jyotish teacher Sam Geppi (Sadasiva), Author of "The Ascendant: The 108 Planets of Vedic Astrology" and "Yoga and Vedic Astrology", and founder of the American Academy of Vedic Arts and Sciences. She has completed her Vedic Astrology certification levels I, II & III with Sadasiva through the American Academy of Vedic Arts and Sciences, (http://vedicartandscience.com/)and is a tutor and assistant teacher for the Level I & II courses. One of her teachers, Dennis Harness (author of "Nakshatras: the Lunar Mansions of Vedic Astrology") describes the difference between Western and Vedic astrology, "Western Astrology is like the ripples on the surface of the ocean, and Vedic astrology is like the deeper waves under the surface." This analogy is not meant to put down Western astrology, rather as a tool for understanding how the 2 systems can co-exist and allow us to use our knowledge of both to aid and abet in our journey forward. Vedic Astrology is not about pin-pointing your personality and leaving you stuck with whatever cards you were dealt, it is about transforming what is into what can be and is an invaluable tool for progressing forward on your personal path. Often we re-encounter problems, modes of behavior and feel stuck; with the help of astrology, we can begin to see where these issues might stem from, and how we can shift the cycle.

In Relationship readings I will use both of your birth charts to analyze your individual tendencies in relationship as well as your synastry with one another. This is valuable for any close family members, friends or partners in business, not just romantic partners.
Jyotish is a very scientific methodology and process that is going to bring up the Truth of your existence here, which is sometimes more than people are ready to hear. Any kind of details you want to offer as to what you specifically do or want to do, partners you are with and what you are most concerned with right now will help us stay focused in a way that feels good to you. Questions about specific aspects of your chart are welcome. Readings are available by Zoom (or In-person, if located on the Big Island) or by Audio recordings that are emailed to you with a copy of your chart. Zoom readings can be recorded and Recorded readings clients may ask questions before and after they receive their recording. All Readings must be paid in advance via PayPal (alexis@alexiscoxyoga.com) or Venmo (@Alexis-Cox-1). Please Note: Location, Date and exact time of Birth are necessary for readings, if you do not have the exact time of birth you have the option of a modified reading based on the Psychology of the Moon (mind and emotions) and other Vedic Techniques of looking at the planets, or allowing some portion of your reading time to be spent on Rectification of your birth time.
